The live-action Halo TV series has been a long time coming. Originally in the works for Showtime, the series is now heading to Paramount+ with Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black) in the lead role as Master Chief. Doing the hit Xbox series justice won't be easy, but this newly revealed still - ahead of the first trailer later tonight - bodes well for the show remaining faithful to the games.
The actor calls preparing for the show "a herculean task," and says "It's a huge job, from setting the tone on set down to the grueling task of waking up at the crack of dawn to work out, then go to shoot, and go home to work out some more. Nothing about it is easy, and I wouldn't want it to be."
Describing Halo as a "classic hero's journey," Schreiber adds: "It takes place very much in the universe that the video games created, but it's a it's a TV show. We get to expand that universe and create stories in it. There's going to be some new characters that are introduced, there's going to be a lot of familiar characters that everyone will know from the game."
Halo takes place in the universe that first came to be in 2001, dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. The series will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure, and a richly imagined vision of the future.
Otto Bathurst (Robin Hood) will be directing and executive producing Paramount+'s adaptation of the Halo series, while Jonathan Liebesman, Roel Reiné, and Jessica Lowrey also direct.
