Halo fans will be pleased to hear that the long-gestating live-action X-Box video game adaptation is still in development, and is expected to premiere sometime in 2022 - but it won't be on Showtime.

As part of today's long list of Paramount+ announcements, it was revealed that the series has now moved to the new streaming service (formerly CBS All Access).

Halo was originally picked up to series at Showtime in 2018, with showrunner Kyle Killen and director Rupert Wyatt attached to the then 10-episode season. The latter parted ways with the project, however, and was replaced by Otto Bathurst (Black Mirror, Robin Hood). Steven Kane (The Last Ship, The Closer) later joined Killen as co-showrunner.

Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black, American Gods) is set to play Master Chief.

According to an official logline, the series will focus on "an epic 26th century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."

A brief teaser was show during the presentation, but has yet to be released online. We do have a new title logo, which you can check out below.

Pablo Schreiber is twice the actor as his brother and everything I ever wanted for Vandal Savage. Hopefully this is good.

Never played Halo. Does it have potential to be a good show? They always mess up video game stuff

Wait. They replaced Rupert Wyatt with the guy who made Robin Hood 2018?

Being on Showtime was what gave me hope that this show could actually be really good. Most of that hope is now gone. And this is my favorite gaming franchise so I've been looking forward to this.

@Himura - How are you feeling about Infinite?

@TexasAvenger - I loved Halo 5's multiplayer (yes I am one of very few) so I'm really looking forward to Infinite. Seems like they're really trying to capture what made Halo great in the first place but modernizing it for a new generation.

@Himura - I thought the consensus was that its multiplayer was great? Some people didn’t like the pound and Spartan charge, but I liked everything about the multiplayer. I don’t trust 343 with the campaign tbh, but I’m cautiously optimistic. We need them to bring Halo back to the top of the hill. Hopefully Infinite does that. I do like that they’re emulating classic Halo. The art style looks great.

@TexasAvenger - From what I've been reading in their monthly blog posts about Infinite, I'm actually really excited about the campaign for a change. Multiplayer has always been where its at for me but everything they've talked about in regards to the campaign have me hoping for the best.

@Himura - I remember when they released the first screenshots of the updated graphics showing some of the armors. That made me a little more optimistic. I do like that they’re taking their time with it. They know they can’t mess up again.

Hmmm, I don't know about this. Showtime's involvement was the biggest selling point for me.

I was excited for this project since it was announced back in 2012/2013. The lack of communication and updates and silence killed any buzz for me.
