Rocksteady's SUICIDE SQUAD: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE Could Be Pushed To 2024

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier provided an update to his initial report of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's delay, speculating that it could be pushed to 2024. Rocksteady has still not commented.

The release status of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League remains up in the air as neither Warner Bros. Games nor developer Rocksteady have formally announced the game's rumored delay. Earlier this month, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that the online action-adventure has been delayed from its current May 26th release date to allow for polish and bug fixes.

Although the initial report offered no new release date, it was believed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would release later this year. Now, that no longer seems to be the case.

Schreier offered a follow-up to his report, acknowledging that Rocksteady still has not formally announced the Suicide Squad delay. However, he added that the internal staff was already notified of the game's delay a few weeks ago and told "it's coming later this year but they still don't know when." But Schreier, who has a good pulse on the status of the industry, also noted that it's possible the game slips into 2024.

Reports of the delay came just weeks after Rocksteady offered fans a deep-dive into the gameplay of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The online action-adventure features four playable characters — Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark — and allows for four-player cooperative multiplayer.

Developed by Rocksteady, the studio behind the acclaimed Batman: Arkham franchise, reception to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's gameplay had been mixed following the gameplay showcase. The generic shooter mechanics coupled with a maligned always-online service that includes a battle pass and microtransactions left many fans underwhelmed with what they saw.

According to Schreier, the delay has more to do with fixing bugs and polishing the game's rough edges than completely overhauling the core gameplay mechanics — including the online service aspect. In his most recent tweet, Schreier reiterated that the core game isn't changing.

At this point, it's unclear when Warner Bros. Games or Rocksteady will announce the delay. As of this writing, the game's website still has the May 26th release date posted.

When it does arrive, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Check out the latest gameplay videos below.

I may try this sometime. I’m of the opinion better late than terrible when it comes to video games

I can't wait for this Hottopic meets Spencer's aesthetic dies. Part of the charm with many of these characters is their over the top personalities and outfits. It's a shame that WB wants each villain and hero to have the same aesthetic and personality.

At this point I'm not even sure if I care to buy the game.

@xfactor - they have the wrong characters going up against the Justice League. The power levels are too lopsided and there isn’t a believable way for the Suicide Squad to beat the Justice League… let alone insert that formula into an enjoyable experience as a video game.

@xfactor - The Avengers game BOMBING made them realice they are gonna do even worse, and now they have a game they spent millions, and they know its going to sell like shit.
On the other hand, they cant spend even more time and money changing the game's genre.
Shitty situation, but if they dont release the game, they cant at least save the money they would spent on putting the servers online.

@TheHumanSpider2 - it’s almost like they had already locked in this kind of game before Avengers bombed and now they’re stuck with a turd
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 3/18/2023, 7:23 PM
@globaltravels - It was announced BEFORE The Avengers game came out.
And that is EXACTLY the situation they are in, they have a turd in their hands they know it wont sell, but they cant just...push it back inside.

from what ive heard of the game play, that wont fix it.

this is the problem with making a team based game, unless you are going to put the extra time in, the characters are all going to play the same

This is one case where I don't think a delay will fix the game's problems. Not if they're not changing the core gameplay.

9 years without releasing a game for Rocksteady and they're gonna give us something probably sub par.

9 years without releasing a game for WB Montreal and they gave us something really sub par.

AAA game development is broken. Can't we go back to getting Arkham City's ever 2 years??

@Nightwing1015 - Thing is, the game is basically done, has been done for months, they cant change the core gameplay.

@Nightwing1015 - yeah they aren’t making money with these 10 year development times, AAA gaming is a mess, it’s weird because Spider-Man 2 and god of war 2 didn’t take that long.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 3/19/2023, 4:23 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - I know, I didn't expect them to fix it. Just release it, take the L and try a Justice League game instead with these characters.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 3/19/2023, 4:24 PM
@Taonrey - Even Spider-Man 2 is taking longer than I expected with a 5 year gap. But I imagine that's cus they're also working on Wolverine at the same time.

Arkham Asylum to City gap was 2 years. I think 2-3 years should be standard given how great that game was.

Taonrey - 3/19/2023, 7:59 PM
@Nightwing1015 - well that and we did get miles morales. 2-3 years should definitely be the standard. I think the issue is the engines changing between games.

@PlusUltra - yeah. Really wonder what made them think a comic book game with the live-service model was gonna work.

The CBGs that worked were all singleplayer, and the two that didn't were... well, those are live service games.
