VIDEO GAMES: No Robin in Batman: Arkham Origins, But Possibly Superman?

A recent interview with Game Informer revealed new details for Batman: Arkham Origins. In the interview they reveal that there is no Robin in Origins as well as talking about the game's soundtrack and its curious relationship to Die Hard.

Recently Game Informer caught up with Eric Holmes, the creative director for Batman: Arkham Origins. Although Holmes played coy, the interviewers were able to glean some interesting information.

Noting that the demo they had played included music that used sleigh bells, the interviewers asked about this. Holmes explained: "One of our inspirations for that is Die Hard, which I think is one of the greatest movies ever made, but it's also a Christmas movie, right? One thing they use in there is whenever McClane has an idea you hear the Christmas bells. So the moment for example when he has the two bullets left for his pistol and he knows Hans has his wife... then you see the Chirstmas tape and the camera punches in. You hear the same thing just before he sends the guy down the elevator... all of his ideas are little Christmas moments."

Given that Arkham Origins takes place at Christmas, the interviewers asked whether the common parody, "Jingle Bells, Batman smells" would be used in the game. Holmes replied: "No comment... One thing I can say to partly answer that is there's no Robin at this part of the continuity. There's no concept of Robin. Batman works alone. Who knows, perhaps the first egg may be laid..."

Although it is not currently known who will score Batman: Arkham Origins, Game Informer suspects that Christopher Drake, who composed the score of The Dark Knight Returns and contributed music to Injustice: Gods Among Us, will be named as the composer.

In a recent episode of Kevin Smith's podcast, Drake hinted that he would be working on a large DC game that was "relevant to this show [Fatman on Batman.]" In the podcast, Drake compared game writing to choose your own adventure books and mentioned a certain super-powered Kryptonian. "It's really interesting . . . you've got to be like here's Batman walking into a room, or Superman or whoever, and you can go through door one, two, or three."

Game Informer was quick to say that this mention of Superman didn't necessarily indicate that Supes will actually appear in Arkham Origins, pointing out that it was possible Drake was just trying to avoid saying definitively that he would be working on a Batman game. On the other hand, we certainly have seen crossovers and combined universes in DC video games before. And before Arkham Origins was announced, there was talk of a Silver Age Batman prequel that would feature other members of the Justice League.

What do you think? Will Superman appear in Arkham Origins? Do you want him to?

This game will be the only reason I hold onto my PS3 before the next gen consoles release. lol Can't wait to see some game play. The only part that sounds a bit challenging to me is the fact that Batman's fights against bosses will be primarily similar to the Mr.Freeze fight in Arkham City. And we all know that level was heart pacing! lol

[frick], man..... I can't wait for this. Hope Supes is in this, or at least Kent. And yes, I hope Rocksteady's Superman: Metropolis project isn't completely flushed down the toilet. It looked beautiful.

Just a Superman game in general would be great. Take advantage of the buzz around the character at the moment.

A Superman game where can play as both Kent and Superman. Also instead of having endless sky, have it when you reach a certain point you fly into space and hover over the Earth, from here you can select various areas (perhaps some levels are set in different countries) this way you make it feel like a massive game, but you have done is taken an large map and broken it up and spread it over a greater area.

Also, no generic dragon monsters.

a superman game just cant work without making the game looking generic and less polished and relying on gimmick to depower superman which you can only use a few times before it becomes annoyingly repetitve

Getting this game. I love Batman and Superman, but no disrespect or offense or anything, DC wouldn't be anything without them to be honest. I would like to see other DC characters developed in media. This is their problem with films, like how many Batman and Superman movies must we get before Justice League?

@Ocelot I don't understand your logic. Why would it look generic and polished? Yes, if they rush it, it probably will be. However, if you had a company who spent time and care then you irradiate those issues.

As for de-powering him, although he is, arguably, DC's most powerful character he is no where near the silver age levels, characters like GL, Shazam etc give him a run for his money - So bringing in his rouges like parasite, brainiac, Zod, Darkseid and so on and set him at his current levels you wouldn't have the issue.

I think I see your point if talking more about general thugs, it is not like Batman, so that's why we get Superman games with flying dragons and robots. However, of can create a strong story which maybe use Sinistro Corps as the 'thugs' heck maybe travel to various planets orEarth is invaded so they change as story progresses.

I think the Batman games and to an extent Injustice have proved that with care and thought put in you can make quality rather than a cash in, the funny thing is quality probably sells more

Maybe as a cameo. But to have a full fledged Superman fight will hhave to wait till the Justice League game or Man of Steel game.
