Microsoft defends Xbox One: "Digital is better."

The article that is discussed at www.cnn.com gives you a better insight of the issue behind Xbox one, and the issue about games being sold/used/traded in etc.

Microsoft tries to clear up the issues with brief comments, but based on their answers they've pretty much made it almost clear of what they are trying to do, which I'm going to help clear up for those that are sitting on the fence or have decided that Microsoft is evil.

I too think Microsoft is taking a little too far with this decision but after reading several articles and the one posted on CNN I've come to the conclusion that it isn't all that bad. (but still relatively not that great either)

They pretty much equate the purchasing of games through Xbox live, versus a physical store, like Apple's App Store. Everyone that owns an Apple device knows that there is no argument that once you buy a game on the app store, it's yours for life and there is no "lending" of the game to a fellow friend that happens to own an iPhone - that friend will have to buy the app themselves, there is no way around this. This is essentially what Microsoft is aiming to do, provide the consumer the product (Xbox console) and give the developers (like those on the App Store) the ability to determine whether they will charge you $60.00 or less or even free. Yes, you read this correctly, some developers are going to be nice enough to give you games for free, again much like what Apple game developers are doing as we speak.

Now onto the issue of trading in games, borrowing etc.

What Microsoft is trying to propose is that when you purchase a digital copy of the game, it's yours for life, it follows you everywhere, so if your current Xbox catches on fire or is stolen, you may buy a new Xbox, upload your profile, and you have your games waiting for you to play with. Also, (it's not mentioned but you can get the sense of it) they will likely save your game progress or at least give you the option to do so on an "iCloud" type air hard drive that will help you with retrieving lost data if your Xbox is destroyed or replaced.

With this type of proposal, the idea comes to my mind the following and that is likely Gamestop will continue to be a physical store, still there to supply you with the hardware, but Gamestop will likely be a "Netflix" type application. With them being a digital store, that will be available for download on the Xbox live most likely, you will probably be able to purchase your games/add-ons/ but also very plausible allow you to sell your title (trading) of your game back for a discounted price towards a different game that you would like to play. The downside??? You'll lose the game title until you buy it again at full price.

Hope that clears up the trading dilemma

Now about borrowing:

I've mentioned earlier that Microsoft wants to basically copy Apple's way of selling games on the App store, so borrowing will soon be a distant memory for all of us gamers that started with our first love, Nintendo. Just like now (Android/iPhone) you purchase let's say Words with Friends (non-free version), you can't let your friend who also uses a smartphone to "borrow" your game they will have to download the content themselves or buy it, if it requires a fee.

Borrowing games is soon going to be non-existent, and those cheering on PS4 for following that path, be careful to not follow closely behind PS4 for soon they too will change, and you'll be faced with the same dilemma.

This is the "gist" of what I got out of all of the information I collected, read, and deciphered.

What is your take, why you are or not going to get an Xbox One console? And what would change your mind?

Yea Apple is a closed company, not much space for any creativity on the consumers part with regard to hardware, unlike the PC where we have the ability to fix/upgrade it ourselves. Apple has been doing this since the start of the App Store, it's just a matter of time for everyone else to come on board, but I'm certain that not everyone is going to exactly what Apple is doing because it will just be illogical but there will be similarities. (Just hope Apple doesn't sue Xbox for this LOL)

PS4 all the way. I've never owned a playstation and i've always been an Xbox guy, but they've made horrible decisions with XReich One and I would hate to see the video game industry go down the path that Microsoft is trying to make it go.

The whole trading system they are forcing their fans to follow, the price, and the biggest issue...forcing people to log into XReich Live once a day or you won't be able to play games on it until you do.

Sorry, but this is a huge slap in the face to their fans.

Xbox has already lost millions of fans to PS4, and they deserve every bit of it.

Unless they do something about all the shit they've done with the Xbox one I ain't buying it. I usually get both but what they are doing is going to lose a lot of customers that will just get a PS4 instead, and with good reason.

I'll get a PS4 when I scrape another 100 euro together. Never played XBox, only ever Playstation and Nintendo. Plus XBox seem to want to keep tabs on the gaming community, it worries me.

Playstation has always been more productive for me, Better exclusives, better codecs, blu ray, 3d, plays any kind of file accept mkv, free online, better controllers, hdmi :), harder to hack, etc etc.

I never understood why people spent money on an xbox. 99% of xbox games are also released on pc. With pc games you can change everything, mod the hell out of it, use the same controller and also change the resolution to any size you please. Spend the money on a good computer instead of a red ring of death magnet where you have to pay for online features.

What I hate about this whole debacle, is that a lot of the hatred for the xbox one, comes from false information, and skewed facts, for exmaple, maryboo's picture:

the first two, are the same, the next three are the same, the camera isn't mandatory, it has to be kinected but not in effect, and Netflix doesn't matter to all gamers, and both systems have to pay monthly for online play, 60 a year

@gamecreatorjj

That last one is wrong.
PS Network is and always has been free and will continue to be. If you want to pay extra for PS Plus then you can for 5 bucks a month and you can download games from a huge library like if it were Netflix. What does Xbox Live Gold give you? Features you already have for free on a PS3 or on your computer? Is it worth paying 60 bucks for it?

Haven't been following this, but it sounds like X-Box will be more like Android or Apple iphone/ipad apps, which you have to download and can't share. There hadn't really been any complaining about that, but of course a lot of those apps are free, & many others are very cheap. I'm guessing the X-Box games won't be that cheap, at least not for good ones. And I'm guessing that renting from Redbox or Gamefly may no longer be an option, or will be more difficult.

The answer is fairly simple. Don't buy it. Microsoft will change its mind about this if sales are bad enough. So either just stick with the 360 for now or go with Nintendo or Sony. That's the only way to make any company change something, by hitting them in the wallet.
