Xbox: Should this console be praised or trashed? Part 2

From my previous article trying to explain the reasons behind some of the ridiculous policies that Xbox was going to force upon their consumers. This second article is to show something very simple, that WE the consumer can change the minds of the those in the corporate world!!

Source: Microsoft backtracks on Xbox One sharing policies

The following article posted on CNN explains that Microsoft reversed their decision based on consumers complaints of its policies. If you missed what those were I'll run through very quickly:

1. 24 Hour check in or you lose your Xbox Live Username

2. Kinect Camera is always on (watching you, Odyssey anyone?)

3. You better have internet access or tough sh***

4. Games will be purchased along with a code that you will need to activate in order to play your game, if you bring your game to a friends house, your friend will need to pay a fee in order to play it on their Xbox console, thus borrowing a game is no longer allowed.

5. Only a few participating game stores would be allowed to trade in games but others won't - this was going to be decided by game developers

6. Unable to play Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One game so you have to play them all over again

It has been confirmed that Microsoft has removed those policies and essentially is making the Xbox One function just like the Xbox 360 as far as the policies and regulations are concerned. Games will be allowed to be played with other Xbox One consoles, no additional fees are required, so you can lend your game to a fellow friend/family.

Internet access will only be necessary in order to keep your Xbox operating system up to date, but you won't need it to play video games.

The only things that haven't changed are the following:

1. Xbox One will still cost $500 - $600 - depending on the size of the HDD

2. Kinect will still come with your purchase of the console, so there is no refusal of it if you're not a fan of it. This will be their "reason" to charge you the high price that is currently confirmed to be.

3. You'll still need a Gold Membership in order to play multiplayer games online and download content for those games etc.

This action demonstrates that we the consumer have a voice and it can be heard. If we demand things, even with the threat of boycotting their merchandise, they will listen or they will lose out.

PS4 was going to my choice but I might just get Xbox One....Maybe?

The only thing that's making me think twice is that its odd that they would make this decision now, but who knows they can always flip the switch on us while we have it, and we will have no choice at that point to follow their policies or get rid of the Xbox.

Let me know how you feel about this news and share your take on it!

So, they are saying that it's going to be like the 360? So why not just keep your 360 then? That makes no sense. That's why I'm a PS guy. I already have a PS+ account (which is an annual fee of $49.99) and just last year I downloaded over 30+ games...for 50 bucks. The math for the XB1 just doesn't add up. It should be common sense.

This is definitely going to be the year for PS4 and after the Expo, they demonstrated to Microsoft how they are bullies and don't care about their consumers. It makes you wonder, what was their underlying reason behind needing to have you be connected every 24 hours? Why did they need Kinect to always be on, to catch your face? Is it convenient that in the media the FBI is defending it's claims about spying on Americans via their mobile devices?

I really don't care if they spy because for me I have nothing to hide and if you don't have anything to hide you shouldn't worry, but the reality of it is that we do have perverts, we do have sick people with personal agendas.

Just really funny that now this is being put on the spotlight that Microsoft changes their mind about the "Always on" policy....lol

@SotoJuiceMan
Which is exactly why the XB1 is going to bow before the PS4. Game over XBox.

@SimpleObserverOfThings
Doesn't matter if you have anything to hide or not. It's called privacy and it's everyone's right.

SimpleObserverOfThings - 6/20/2013, 9:19 AM
I totally agree, we have the right to privacy, just highlighting a fact that is disturbing that's all. I don't agree with them spying on us, I rather not have them do so, but the fact of the matter of it is, we really don't have rights....

Read up on George Carlin about American Rights...

Or you can go to Wikipedia and look up Japanese American Internment that happened in 1942 and you'll notice that our rights is really imaginary..

Again I don't disagree with any of you on the matter of our right to privacy, I really agree that we should be able to do what we want in the privacy of our home as long as we don't harm others in the process that's all..

Sorry if I offend anyone... all love here not hate
thebamf
thebamf - 6/20/2013, 9:34 AM
No hate here either buddy. I agree with you that the government is violating our rights constantly. It's sad that the people fear their government when it is supposed to be the other way around.

That is true, I wasn't going to touch on that but yes to those that think just turning off the Xbox will disable the Kinect camera from not spying on you is deceiving yourself.

With any digital camera that is connected to any device (Computer, tablet, game console) anyone can hack into it as long as the computer still has power running through it.

It's a scary thought, but I just wanted to point out that Microsoft changed their minds about "Always On" policy during this time where FBI is being questioned regarding spying on Americans, especially using electronic devices like the mobile phones that have cameras and possibly web cams.

The damage has been done, horrible horrible PR, thought they would have learnt from Sony's mistake when they had this type of attitude when the PS3 was close to release.

The camera thing bothers me, mine faces the wall when not in use. They release this info so early so they have the time to make changes based on peoples reaction. So I'm glad they are paying attention.

@Freedomfreelife. I have an 360 and a Ps3. I'm in electronics sales. I prefer Microsoft myself. I was there when Sony released their backwards compatible system, then changed it. You know why they did that? I bet your going to say so they could lower the price for consumers. You would be wrong to believe their excuse. The real reason was because people keptbuying the Ps2 versions of games. So they did it to get you to spend more money. What happened when the system started overheating really bad, nothing. Microsoft extended their manufacturers wwarranty an extra two years for their problems. What happened when Sony got hacked? You got two ten dollar games and a month of playstation plus. Maybe its microsofts turn to screw up, maybe Sony will continue to, but until you actually know what your talking about, shut your hate filled mouth.

Doesn't matter to me. I have my 360, and my games have an absurdly huge amount of replay value. I don't need the next generation console, though I do need a new computer....

Seriously though - be smart people. Wait a while, there's no rush. Whether it's the PS4 or Xbox One, there's bound to be glitches, bugs, red rings of death, defective products, etc etc.... and it would behoove all of you to just wait till they work it out.

To haters. They reversed the online always and used game policies for starters. Second, I've looked at comparisons and it has more exclusive games (not to mention better ones) and don't forget it was Sony's idea first for the used game codes. And if you feel creeped out by it always watching you maybe you have something to hide. Honestly stopping that is as easy as putting a cover over it. Also we pay memberships for safe servers!
