DARK PHOENIX's Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Been Revealed

The first wave of reviews have landed for Dark Phoenix, and while Fox chose to lift the embargo when everyone was sleeping, there's no way they'll be able to hide this score for very long. Check it out...

Dark Phoenix wasn't originally going to be the final X-Men movie, but then the Disney/Fox merger happened and it's been billed as an epic finale ever since. Well, not only did Fox (and Disney, as they've been marketing it in recent weeks) make a huge mistake advertising it as such due to the way critics are dismissing it as a terrible ending for the franchise, but it also sounds like a generally terrible movie.

Now, Dark Phoenix's Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed, and, as you might expect, it's not good. Given how important these percentages are to moviegoers, this is inevitably going to hurt box office takings.

With 17%, the Simon Kinberg helmed release is officially the worst-reviewed X-Men movie ever, but it has managed to avoid the single digit score 2015's Fantastic Four reboot received. According to the Critics Consensus, "Dark Phoenix ends an era of the X-Men franchise by taking a second stab at adapting a classic comics arc -- with deeply disappointing results."

Needless to say, it sounds like the filmmaker made a huge mistake going back to the story arc he helped screw up in 2006, and the studio's insistence on retelling the Dark Phoenix saga has backfired in a big way.

We'll be sure to keep you guys updated as the score continues to change, but it's unlikely to increase much from here seeing as all the biggest sites have now weighed in with their opinions. Are you guys still looking forward to checking out Dark Phoenix, or will you be giving it a miss this weekend?

@Capfan82 - I don’t care what Marvel does with the franchise but if there is ANY way we can keep Fassbender as Mangneto then that would be a boon for the MCU

@krayzeman - Fassbender and McAvoy should absolutely be in the MCU. But not as Magneto and Professor X.

I don't think it was ever going to do well at the box office anyway because it's going up against Secret life of Pets 2. Even if it had a good RT score people still would have never went to see it because the summer is for family fun films, and from the reviews it's a dark/depressing film.

@crawley - Fassbender as Dr. Doom. McAvoy... not sure. who do you think?

@krayzeman - I could see Fassbnder with a more comic accurate costume. give him the white hair too. but how do they get around him and Prof X meeting in WWII?

@Capfan82 - Mcavoy = Mephisto.

Did Disney distribute this? I think this will irreparably damage the Marvel brand just as they were riding the high of Endgame, the best superhero film of all-time.

This puts major pressure on Spider-Man Far From Home to redeem the brand.

*fortunately they have the advantage of having me in the film, so things still look good for Spidey.

@krayzeman -

It'll be a clean break with no connection to the FOX-films. They've tarnished the brand so much that Feige will likely not touch it for at least close to a decade or so. They've got more than enough planned to be able to do that, although you can probably see X-men and FF characters slowly worked into the mix of the films or perhaps live-action on Disney+.

THAT SAID, Fassbender and McAvoy should join the MCU in different roles. McAvoy is a dynamic actor and I'd think he wouldn't want to jump back into the role of Xavier when Marvel reboots the films. He's kind of wasted in the role because Fox really didn't do much for him in it.

They put him in a bullet-proof uniform and he still got shot in the back.

And yet still not the worse CBM of the year according to Rotten Tomatoes.

On the same level apparently though. I'm expecting to laugh pretty hard at this. God Feige and MS can't get to the Xmen fast enough.

I may go watch it in cinemas as I originally planned. But,the film director shouldn't have gone to the failed story arc from 2006. He should have gone with a new story arc route. That would have boosted the numbers of moviegoers.

So they got the chance to do The Last Stand twice, and somehow made it worse than the first go round?

That's an accomplishment on itself.
