RUMOR: The Reason X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Has Been Delayed May Have Been Revealed And It's Not Good

Earlier today, we learned that X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants have been delayed but what's the reason for the change? It probably won't surprise you but you can find out more after the jump...

The New Mutants has already been pushed back to 2019 and it was revealed earlier today that not only is it coming even later than expected but X-Men: Dark Phoenix is going to join it next year too. So, what's up with the delay? Well, it's now being reported that after testing the movie, Fox has decided to order weeks of reshoots in what must be a sign that the movie hasn't been particularly well-received.

It is, of course, possible that these could be harmless enough but every movie undergoes reshoots and it's pretty much unheard of for a blockbuster to be delayed because of them (that hasn't even happened to Solo: A Star Wars Story). As for The New Mutants, that too is now undergoing even more significant reshoots to "add a few new characters to round out the movie, as well as make it scarier, overhauling the majority of the film." Clearly, Fox execs weren't at all happy with that first cut.

So, this really isn't good news for either project and you have to believe that both movies are going to end up disappointing unless these reshoots are able to completely turn things around. Still, with Disney in the process of acquiring 20th Century Fox, it won't be long until the Fantastic Four and X-Men are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants a distant memory...

Because it's bad?

@PBIRD - if I had to guess, it would be because it's bad.

@PBIRD - Maybe its so good that they are reshooting it to qualify for Oscar nominations. Logan and suicide squad are breaking barriers.

@PBIRD - Almost certainly. The first reshoot for New Mutants kind of made sense, at least their excuse made sense, but now having even larger reshoots and pushing the movie back further certainly spells doom. Sounds like they are reshooting a majority of the film.

And Dark Phoenix?? A film that few fans want? That's a really bad sign. They need to end the franchise with this movie. Not sure why Fox has struggled so much with these team up X-Men films, they've lost any clue of what they're doing. They should just throw everything at the wall, say this is what we are going with, its to serve as a satisfying conclusion to the franchise and if its not a good film, at least we tried.

@mastakilla39 - Please.

Logan wishes it was an Academy Award winner like Suicide Squad.

@HeavyMetal4Life -
I just didn't get why they wanted to do the Phoenix Saga again. Also, why was Kinberg directing?

@Battabing - these are both good questions

@PBIRD - All this means is that when it releases and sucks people will complain about how it would have somehow been amazing if they didn't make all the changes.

@Battabing - Kinberg is the exec producer and writer for most x-men films so he can do anything he wants. You think any1 can stop Kevin Feige from directing Avengers 5 if he wanted to?

Yeah, Bob Iger.
Y'know, the guy that signs his checks?

@mastakilla39 - To quote Dirty Harry - A good man got's to know his limitation!

Screenwirters graduating to directors have a spotted success story in Hollywood, for every success there's a shitload of failures.

I went off Kinsberg during his publicity tour supporting that crapfest FF reboot. The man has no integrity and it's clear only decent directors elevate his mediocre writing.

Nah I doubt it. The delay is to due with the Disney-Fox deal. Do all the necessary and normal reshoots you want.

I am looking forward to Comic Con.

@NinnesMBC - Why would Disney want Dark Pheonix to be delayed to a month before Cap Marvel?

It's basically confirmed that the Skrulls are in Dark Pheonix. Why would they risk the skrull comparison between the two films?

If the Skrulls in Dark Pheonix are recieved negatively by the audience it could risk Cap Marvel, if they are recieved positviely then the Skrulls of Cap Marvel could be less well recieved.
