Simon Kinberg Says X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Is A Grounded Film With Extraterrestrial Characters

At the premiere for Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix helmer Simon Kinberg stated that Fox's second stab at the Phoenix storyline is more faithful to the comics and less "operatic" than X-Men: Apocalypse.

"It's much more loyal to the original comic than X-Men 3, which told the Dark Phoenix story," said X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg while speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of Deadpool 2.

He continued, "It's a movie that involves extraterrestrial characters, which is not something that we've done in the X-Men franchise before and is something that is a huge part of the Dark Phoenix saga in the comics. The tone is- I don't know if I would say darker but it's more intense. It's more real and grounded and hopefully more relatable, a little less operatic than we've been in the past."

X-Men: Dark Phoenix arrives in theaters on February 14, 2019. Most comic book fans expect it and The New Mutants to be the final sendoff for Fox's X-Men Cinematic Universe before the studio's merger with Disney.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently stated that the MCU's film slate has been firmly planned through 2019 so it would be a while before any of the X-Men or Fantastic Four could potentially show up, provided that the acquisition is actually finalized next Summer.

Based on this and Ty Sheridans comments I think they are meaning it's "grounded in drama" unlike the way the orginal triology or Logan were "grounded".

I mean the literally Enetrmanin Weekly cover has Jean covered wiht her hair in flames. Plus, we are getting aliens.

That is to say that even with giant cosmic fire birds and aliens, the main focus will be between Jean and Scott and Jean and the X-men.
