Channing Tatum Closes Deal To Star In GAMBIT Movie

Despite troubling reports that the G.I. Joe star was threatening to abandon 20th Century Fox's Gambit adaptation, new reports reveal Channing Tatum has officially closed a deal to star the X-Men spin-off.

Following reports earlier this week that said 20th Century Fox's Gambit may lose Channing Tatum, The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that the studio and Magic Mike star have closed a deal. The trade source goes on to reveal that negotiations almost fell through partially due to there being uncertainty about the nature of Tatum's multi-picture role. Apparently, with Hugh Jackman gearing up for his last run as the Wolverine, Fox is looking to Remy LeBeau aka Gambit as a new anchor in the X-Men universe with the mutant headlining his own films and appearing in others.

Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter notes "backend compensation was also a sticking point" in Tatum threatening to exit the project. Nevertheless, with Rupert Wyatt directing, Gambit is still on schedule to start filming in October, and open in theaters on October 7, 2016. What do you think?

I don't mind it. Don't care for Gambit but give respect and props to Tatum for helping Stan Lee.

Fox should've dragged this pony with three busted legs behind the barn and put a bullet in it's head.

I mean seriously, what's next? Will Marvel and WB jump on the bandwagon by releasing films for War-Machine and Steve Trevor?

This is madness.

@KurtWagner1225 Sounds like they're casting a new Rogue too if Lea Seydoux (oh man, the hearteyes) is in the mix.

This will make decent money just because of Channing Tatum. I know chicks that go see every one of his movies in the theater just because they want to [frick] his brains out. Kinda like @Levitkuz and Ron Perlman.

I see them basing this film off of the "Once a Thief" storyline by James Asmus. It's basically Mission Impossible. Make it take place in New Orleans and you're set. Just make sure we get this scene somewhere.

Might piss some people off but I'm pumped.

"Fox sees Tatum’s Gambit, a mutant who harnesses kinetic energy, as one of the anchor characters of the X-universe, akin to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, someone who would anchor his own movies and appear in numerous others."

Can't think of many people who wanted GOTG or Ant-Man movies to happen but once they came out most people liked it. Same situation.

Wolverine, Deadpool and Gambit are my top 3 X-Men favorites so the fact that they all have or are going to have films is a big deal to me.

@Kurt

If the solos are more The Wolverine in quality and less Origins, I will be in heaven. In the actual X-Men films though I'd like of course a more team dynamic but appearances by those characters will get me giddy.

The fact that there's a large number of people who can't see that Tatum's a good actor on the borderline of being great is painfully disheartening.

I'm assuming you're referring to how Ben rapes the Browns defense twice a year. That's the only rape he's guilty of.

Yes, $150mil is way to excessive for a Gambit picture. I always thought it would range from $60-100mil at most. Hopefully that reported budget is wrong since it came from the same article that said Tatum was leaving Gambit.
