Channing Tatum's Solo GAMBIT Feature Loses Its Director

20th Century Fox's X-Men spin-off Gambit has run into another big problem as due to reported script & budget complications, director Rupert Wyatt has decided to leave the Channing Tatum-led project.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that director Rupert Wyatt (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) has dropped out of 20th Century Fox's upcoming X-Men spin-off film Gambit, which is set to star Channing Tatum (21st Jump Street) as the Ragin' Cajun and Léa Seydoux (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) as Bella Donna Boudreaux.

Details about his departure are still coming in, but The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the primary reason he decided to leave was because of script complications, which have led to an increased budget and in turn, a delayed production start date causing a conflict with one of Wyatt's prior committments.

Wyatt confirmed his departure in a statement released earlier today: "I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film."

After Tatum's initial contract issues, this is another huge blow for the seemingly ill-fated project, which is now expected to kick off production in early 2016. No word yet on whether it will still meet its October 2016 release date.

What do you guys think? Who would you like to see replace Wyatt? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Gambit is expected to hit theaters October 7, 2016

Cancel it and bring Léa Seydoux into the MCU and make her Madame Hydra!

@Crabnado

"this is more ****ed than Ant-Man was"

No its not, not yet at least. Ant-man had 3 different directors on board, Gambit is only going on its 2nd and is still at least 4-5 months away from shooting.

That's a shame, this seems pretty doomed. I say give it to the guys who did John Wick; that had awesome close combat and fight scenes, sharp dialogue, looked very cool too.

Well that sucks. But how close together did he schedule projects considering he was directing a big superhero movie? Does this have any chance of making it's scheduled release date now?

If I had to guess, I'd say they'll push this to Wolverine's March slot, Wolverine to FF2's June slot, and FF2 to development hell.

According to Schmoesknow, rumors have been going around that the script wasn't very good and that's why they had difficulties to find a director to start with (Aronofsky supposedly passed it because of it)

Fox is nervous and wantS this movie to really kick off Tatum/Gambit as the main man after Hugu/Wolverine last movie, hence them intervening even closer in the script.

To me, there is smoke...too much things fishy around it, includig Tatum first attempt to quit.

I beginning to think Disney and WB just have access and relationships to more talented people than Fox does.

This sucks. Wyatt is sooooooooo good and I'm a gambit fan. I don't think he really warrants a solo film, but I'll take it if it's given haha

Gambit sits, deck in hand, and waits for his time to shine.

Wasn't Ant-Man waiting 8 years to get off the ground? Yeah, not the same.

@KurtWagner1225 We already got a new main man... He'll win an Oscar in 2016 and will increase his star power.
