Despite The Disney Deal, GAMBIT Is Still Happening And It's Going To Have An Insane Budget

We all thought that Gambit wouldn't happen as a result of the Disney/Fox deal but with that set to take a good 12 - 18 months to become real, it's business as usual and Fox is spending a lot on this one.

Gambit has been delayed since 2015 and was originally supposed to hit theaters well over a year ago. Well, while many fans were hopeful that the Channing Tatum led release would never see the light of day thanks to the Disney/Fox deal, the fact it's business as usual at 20th Century Fox means that shooting will begin in Louisiana in March with Gore Verbinski still at the helm of the X-Men spinoff.

However, it looks like rumblings about it following Deadpool and Logan as an R-Rated movie aimed at an older audience may have been unfounded as the Times-Picayune is reporting that it has a budget of $155 million. While that number could have changed (it's possible that's based on what Fox originally had planned for the movie), it appears as if Fox is looking at this as a big budget blockbuster.

After all, $155 million puts Gambit in the same realm as movies like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: Apocalypse and we all know how those turned out! We'll just have to wait and see but with the movie set to be released on February 14th, 2019, we'll no doubt hear some concrete details soon. As well as Tatum, the rest of the cast is currently made up of only Lizzy Caplan as Bella Donna Boudreaux.

@Krampus - i believe all fox's films planned from now til late 2018 are still going to be shot and released.

I think Hollywood reporter said the only films Marvel can cancel are the 2 mysterious marvel films slated for 2019 and 2021. Besides that the ship has already sailed.

So Marvel after acquiring the rights to xmen and f4 has to wait until 2021 at the earliest to reboot. But by then im not sure if it even matters anymore.

@mastakilla39 - I'm just hoping we get that X23/Laura film. I know Mangold is making a Patty Hearst biopic, but if he can finish filming that and start Laura later this year... well come on man. Still hoping Marvel will keep the XCU as an alternate universe. Cap meeting Xavier won't mean much to me personally unless its McAvoy or Stewart - someone with an established presence.
