GAMBIT Adds MASTERS OF SEX Star Lizzy Caplan In A Lead Role - Is She Playing Bella Donna Or Rogue?

Variety is reporting that Primetime Emmy-nominee Lizzy Caplan has joined Channing Tatum in 20th Century Fox's upcoming X-Men spinoff Gambit as the female lead. Details on her top-secret role are being kept under wraps for the time being.

Plot details remain scarce, but rumor has it, that the film will focus on Gambit's life before joining the X-Men, when he was a member of the notorious Thieves Guild. It has also been described multiple times by producer Simon Kinberg as a "heist movie" and "sexy thriller," so take from that what you will.

Gore Verbinski, of Pirates of the Caribbean fame, is helming the eagerly-awaited project with a script from Josh Zetumer (Patriots Day). Filming is expected to begin in New Orleans sometime early next year.

It was previously reported, when Doug Liman (American Made) was helming, that Léa Seydoux (Spectre) had been cast as Bella Donna Boudreaux, but it appears as though her role will now be recast. However, it's unclear whether Caplan will take over the role or if she's playing an entirely different character... perhaps, Rogue?

Caplan is best known for her Emmy-nominated role in Showtime's Masters of Sex and also as the CIA honeypot in Sony Pictures' The Interview. Her other popular roles include, but are not limited to, Cloverfield, 127 Hours, Now You See Me 2, Allied, Party Down, and Mean Girls. Caplan's upcoming projects include the James Franco-led comedy The Disaster Artist, the television mini-series Das Boot and the sci-fi thriller Extinction opposite Michael Peña (Ant-Man and the Wasp).

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

I love her as an actress so that's cool. But she seems different that what I thought the female lead to Gambit would be.

@TheUnworthyThor - I think you're the only person to have an idea of what the female lead of a Gambit movie is

My guess is she's Belladonna, but she would make a great Rogue.

Good actress, not sure who she'll be playing though,

think they'll save Rogue for a sequel, if there ever is one.

I’m still upset that Anna Paquin never got to play the Rogue we know from the comics especially after watching all of true blood. Love Lizzie but I hope she’s not playing Rogue.
