It's been a while since we heard anything on the Gambit front, but it looks like Channing Tatum and the team at 20th Century Fox may be inching closer and closer to an actual production start date.

While speaking with Variety, at the Deadpool 2 world premiere in New York, producer Simon Kinberg shared an extremely promising update about the upcoming X-Men spinoff film, “We have a script that we love — that Channing loves. We’ve met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks, and we’re hoping to actually pick one in the next couple of weeks and shoot the movie maybe the end of this summer.

While the director search remains ongoing, it's good to finally hear that the script is complete and in a place where everyone feels comfortable about beginning filming. Previous directors attached to the project include Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), and Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean).

So, what do you guys think? Who would you want to take the helm of Gambit? Sound off with your thoughts below!

c'mon Fox, let this one go.

@sKeemAn - Hey now, if it ends up being a good movie, why not make it? If it's because of the MCU, it isn't like a bad movie's never stopped Feige from rebooting. Hell, it isn't like a good movie has stopped him.

@Yaf - I think Fox needs to get their slate together. But at the same time, they are merging with another company. Spending money on this particular production seems like a foregone conclusion at this point.

@Yaf - there is no way in hell this ends up being a good movie

They’re just going to hire the first director who says yes, and we’re going to get Brett Ratner’s Gambit.

Seems more and more this will not be a “light switch flip” moment for FOX/DISNEY.

June 20, 2019 - FOX with all their projects.
June 21, 2019 - DISNEY takes over and all FOX projects are gone.

Unless they have a real Infinity Gauntlet. 😮 😂

It almost seems like FOX will get as many done as possible and then Disney will release under a different banner. Once all the pre-merger films are released...THEN they will introduce/Reboot into MCU.

@IronGenesis -

Maybe the FOX guys have already spoken with Feige about what his ideas would be on dealing with the
FOX/Marvel properties. Perhaps Feige is going the Multiverse route via Ant-Man and the Microverse
and the X-Men/Fantastic Four properties are going to be set on an alternate Earth.

That way, FOX can still release Marvel films under its own banner that are more adult oriented.

I just don't see Marvel Studios and Disney risking their business model by bringing in R-Rated
superhero films. Sure there is Netflix, but that is for fans. The general public just wants movies
they can take the kids to see and they can ignore the fact there is a hard R Punisher and Daredevil
series on Netflix.

@IronGenesis - whos to say that Disney (or whoever) doesnt just become the parent company of Fox Studios

That’s cool. While all these Fox projects feel like lame duck movies they don’t bother me that they exist. And I’ve long hoped to see a Gambit movie even if the actor isn’t my first choice and it’s not like I expect Gambit would have been a priority for Marvel after a merger.

Setting a filming date for a movie with no director is literally planning to pull someone in last minute AGAIN so that you can lose your new director AGAIN and we can repeat this entire process AGAIN.

Maybe don't make the movie if you can't find someone who wants to make it before you try to make it
