GAMBIT Has Been Delayed Until Summer 2019 For A Very Unexpected Reason

We learned yesterday evening that Gambit has lost another director and that it's been delayed from Valentine's Day 2019 to the summer. However, it turns out that there's a very surprising reason for that.

When it was revealed last night that Gambit has been pushed back from February 14th, 2019, to June 7th, 2019, most of us assumed that it was because the Marvel movie had lost its third director in the form of Gore Verbinski. Well, while that's no doubt played a role in this delay, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the decision actually boiled down to the movie's tone. What are we talking about?

Well, while Gambit is going to revolve around a heist, the trade notes that it will have "a heavy comedic tone" and the studio believes that it will play better to audiences in the summer. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense when Deadpool came out in February but there was way more hype around that.

So, Gambit is a comedy then! Channing Tatum is arguably at his best in those types of movies (just look at 21 Jump Street) but
it's sort of a shame to hear this as a more serious tone definitely wouldn't have hurt the spinoff. Time will tell whether or not it's R-Rated but this summer release date and a star like Tatum could mean that Fox is looking to appeal to the family audience. As always, stay tuned for more.

This all happened because he had a cameo in X-Men Origins of all movies and people thought he was interesting despite barely a few minutes of screen-time most of it getting beaten down easily.

Why even bother at this point?

@Scarilian - Pretty sure this happened because Gambit has a huge fanbase and is a dope character, not because of that lame movie.

Seriously, at this point just wait for the MCU version.
I'll push for the same guys:

Matt as the Ragin Cajun

And f*ck it, Guy Ritchie as the director, he'd kill it!!!

"So, Gambit is a comedy then!"

Why the [frick] not. Thor and Star Wars are now, so why not Gambit.

@nikgrid - SW isn't a comedy by any means.

The fact that there is humour thrown at some places doesn't automatically make it a comedy, as the film's overall tone isn't comedic.

@nikgrid - I see Thor, but Star Wars? I really don't see it. The only movies in the franchise that were even somewhat considered comedies were the prequels, and that wasn't intentional.

@kylo0607 - "SW isn't a comedy by any means."

I know...I was being facetious regarding the unwarranted jokes that were injected into the story.

If you take TLJ seriously, you are going to have a really bad time because you'll realize nothing remotely makes sense

@nikgrid - Yeah but that was just a few poor jokes sprinkled in a movie that's overall dark and serious.

@nikgrid - Even the old Star Wars films had a lot of comedy and slapstick at points.

@TRexx21 - Yeah they had comedy at certain points not ill placed comedy like TLJ.

I think I’ve figured it out. To absolutely make sure the sale to Disney goes through Fox is going to “leak” increasingly ridiculous news so that by a year from now Americans will be so overwhelmingly desperate for Fox to sell that politicians will have no other choice but to let it happen.

@auditore - Deadpool was also a movie EVERYONE wanted because we all thought it would never happen.
Gambit's hype has been mixed. Some really want it and some think it should be cancelled and not even tried.
