GAMBIT Producer Praises The Script; Reveals Channing Tatum's Been Learning Card Tricks
While promoting another of his films with star Channing Tatum, producer Reid Carolin revealed that the script for Gambit was a big selling point for him, and that Tatum has been practicing card tricks.
While promoting his most recent collaboration with star Channing Tatum, Magic Mike XXL producer Reid Carolin briefly teased a few details about Gambit in an interview with Screen Rant. Carolin has produced a number of Tatum's movies in the past and will also work on the star's first foray into the superhero world. The producer revealed that filming for Gambit will start in the fall, and claimed that the movie's script was a big factor in getting him on board.
"Yeah, that we’ll shoot that in the fall, we’ll probably start that in late October/November in New Orleans. Rupert Wyatt is our director, he’s pretty cool. I think the script is really good. To be honest, I don’t watch big movies for pleasure a lot, but this script convinced me that we should be making this movie, so…"
He was also asked about Channing Tatum's Cajun accent, something the actor has previously claimed to be very serious about including in his interpretation of the character. But while he was unable to give an update on the sound of the accent, he did reveal Tatum was also working hard at nailing another of Remy LeBeau's more recognizable attributes:
"[Hearing the accent] probably is a spoiler but you should ask him. I don’t think he has it yet. Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do slight of hand and all that, so we’re producing that and I’m mostly just writing stuff, both things are female-driven but they’re totally different kinds of stories."
Clearly not the biggest fan of blockbuster movies, Carolin appears confident that Gambit can be something special thanks to the strength of its script.
