It's been a long, long road for Fox's X-Men spin-off Gambit. But, it appears that we now have a confirmed month for the start of production. According to Omega Underground's "official source," production on Gambit will officially begin in March 2018. It was previously reported to begin in February.

The bump in the production start date means we can now expect filming to wrap sometime between July and August 2018.

It has also been confirmed that filming will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, which we figured to be the case given the character's origin. As the site points out, this likely means stage work will take place at Big Easy Studios, which Fox has previously used for Logan and Dawn of The Planet of The Apes.

Primetime Emmy-nominee Lizzy Caplan recently joined the cast of Gambit as the female lead, starring opposite Channing Tatum who will play the film's titular character. Details on her role are still being kept a secret, but it's believed she could play Bella Donna Boudreaux.

We still don't have an official synopsis for Gambit, but it is rumored that Candra The Benefactress, a mutant integral to Remy LeBeau's comic book origin, could be involved in the film. Her inclusion could help bridge Gambit to the studio's other X-Men properties such as Deadpool and X-Force, as Candra is a member of a group of immortal mutants known as the Externals. Character breakdowns for the film also indicate that Mr. Sinister may play an important role in the story as well.

Gambit has been slated release on February 14, 2019. Now let's just hope Disney's reported pursuit of 20th Century Fox's X-Men rights won't spell doom for this long-delayed film.

The sale to Disney will shelve that. Marvel Studios does not want to see Gambit ruined again.
