GAMBIT Production Start Date Pushed To Late 2016; Doug Liman Expected To Recast Supporting Roles

With Doug Liman overseeing rewrites on Gambit, it's no surprise that production has been moved to late 2016. However, it sounds like the cast, outside of Channing Tatum, may be getting an overhaul.

An X-Men spin-off for the Ragin' Cajun Gambit with Channing Tatum (Hail, Caesar!) starring and Doug Liman (Edge Of Tomorrow) directing is certainly on the way, but it sounds like it'll be a little later than initially expected and for good reason.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that with Gambit currently in the midst of rewrites, which are being overseen by the Edge Of Tomorrow & Bourne Identity director, the film's production start date has unsurprisingly been moved to late 2016. The shift has also freed up Liman to direct The Wall, a psychological thriller, for Amazon Studios this summer before launching principal photography on Gambit in the fall. Additionally, The Wrap adds that Liman is expected to start his casting search from the ground up, meaning that Lea Seydoux (Spectre), who was cast as Bella Donna Boudreaux back in August 2015 and the only confirmed cast member outside of the long-attached Tatum, will possibly be recast barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Liman initially boarded the superhero spin-off back in November 2015 after Rupert Wyatt (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) decided to bow out. Channing Tatum has been attached to the project since May 2015, and was officially confirmed last Halloween. No word on an expected release date, but a late 2017 release seems probable.

I think we should at least give Tatum a chance with this role. I'm confident this movie will turn out good, especially with Liman helming it.

A solo Gambit movie is not something that I think is a good idea. This could work as a sort of sexy heist film but they have to write the shit out of it.
