GAMBIT Thrown Into Turmoil As Channing Tatum Looks To Exit X-MEN Spinoff

Just weeks after appearing at the San Diego Comic-Con to build up hype around the 2016 X-Men spinoff, it looks like Gambit is in serious trouble as star Channing Tatum is planning on exiting.

It was always pretty hard to believe that Gambit was actually being made, but the main reason for it happening was no doubt Channing Tatum. It was the passion for the character he expressed in interviews which actually landed him the job, and he's since appeared at Comic-Con to hype the movie and has even talked about the way he's preparing to play the fan-favourite Cajun mutant.

Well, the project is now in jeaprody as The Wrap reveals that his deal to star in the movie is close to falling apart, and insiders tell them that director Rupert Wyatt will soon be looking for a new leading man (which means that the studio won't scrap the project altogether). Fox has even been testing young actresses to star in the movie alongside Tatum - including Spectre's Lea Seydoux - but sources claim that "something is up" with his deal. The site points out that there's always a chance that this can be resolved and that the actor may stay on as a producer, but it's currently not looking good. Are you still interested in seing Gambit without Channing Tatum? Let us know below...

Fox is a lot more star driven when it comes to their superhero films, so yeah wouldn't be surprised if this fell apart altogether @KurtWagner1225.

Not really a fan of Channing Tatum so I don't care if they replace him or not. That being said, Gambit is one of my favorite X-Men, so I hope that they can find someone else to play him if the deal falls through.

Kitsch won't ever be Gambit again. No studio will ever give him the headline role for a big blockbuster after both John Carter and Battleship crashed harder than the Hindenburg in the same year.

@InfiniteMonkey Bad joke is bad!

You're not a trash actor if you get roles in a Coens Bro and Tarantino film. :o

They need to bring back Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. I liked what he did in Origins.

Not that I care if the movie gets made or not, since I'm not a Gambit fan, but what does that mean the deal fell apart. The movie has been in pre-production for months, mostly because he agreed to star in it. Didn't they have a deal worked out months ago? This doesn't make sense.

I hope this is true. I think there are better actors for Gambit, although I won't mind if he stays on.

Gambit is my favorite Xman of all time but I never thought a gambit solo effort would work. This is not bad news in my opinion. Why not do an xforce movie instead?

Gambit is my second favourite X-Men character of all time. I've been dying to see him in a substantial role since the first X-Men movie hit. But nothing about this solo movie has me excited. Scrap Tatum and the movie and just insert him into an ensemble movie. I'd rather see him as part of the team. Love the Wolverine movies or hate them, at least Jackman's Logan earned the right to be given the chance to go it alone. I'd have much preferred if Gambit just appeared in a substantial supporting role in Apocalypse than in a solo outing.

But...why is it in trouble? Reading all that was like reading the headline again.
