COMICS: Marvel Launching New Weekly Series, WOLVERINES

Who will take up the mantle of Wolverine in the aftermath of Logan's death? It looks like a new weekly series will eventually provide the answer, as Charles Soule and Ray Fawkes plan to bring together some of Logan's closet friends (and enemies) in Wolverines..

Everyone's favourite mutant nutcase will be six feet under when 2014 draws to a close, but in 2015 it looks like a new Wolverine will emerge -- after a sure-to-be vicious battle that is. We already had word that Sabertooth would be taking up the mantle for a while, only to be replaced by X-23 somewhere down the line..but it looks like things won't be that simple. MTV have gotten the jump on an announcement planned for later today at Marvel’s "Death Of Wolverine - The Logan legacy" panel at New York Comic-Con, and revealed that we'll be getting a new weekly series from Charles Soule (Death Of Wolverine) and Ray Fawkes (The Logan Legacy) called Wolverines. This story will see Mystique, Daken, Sabretooth, Deathstrike, X-23 and "a few mystery characters uncovering secrets behind Wolverine’s death… As well as a healthy dose of good old fighting." You can find out a bit more about this and check out some more artwork at the link below.

Yet another example of Marvel cancelling comics with Fox's characters in them.

I am livid.

Lol... Yeah, Marvel are a bunch of gold diggers - trying to actually make money off of one of their characters. Exploiting his death, while simultaneously cock blockbustering Fox is just the lowest of the low.

@StarYeezus Same thing I thought when I saw it too.

Hey, Marvel need to get their shit together. If they're gonna freeze of Fox characters, they should be drawing their characters to resemble actors in their franchise. Confused much?

Lol...

Smells like the Reign of the Supermen storyline.

Marvel and DC produce the worst of all comics.

Superman "dies" 4 Supermen replace him

Batman's back is broken, new Batman replaces him

Captain America "dies" Bucky replaces him

Human Torch "dies" no one gave a damn

Batman "dies" Dick Grayson replaces him

Wolverine "dies" Sabretooth replaces him and some dumbasses call themselves Wolverines

Captain America gets old aged AGAIN and The Falcon is still The Falcon but he swipes Caps name

Thor burns out or something and She-Thor is born

@ManDeth Exactly. I want to like Marvel, because some of their comics are good. Same goes for DC but they do this to their comics and of course that's why I pick the movies over the comics. ESPECIALLY when it comes to Marvel.

IDW or Dynamite should do a Ray Donovan comic.

@ManDeath

I can understand the Marvel complaints since the Marvel heroes don't really have mantles per say, but really the legacy characters of DC exist specifically to some day take up their mentors place and make sure that there is always a Batman or Superman or Flash and its resulted in some pretty good storylines.

I'm so glad Wolverine is finally dieing, woop woop! turncoat.

In terms of who should take over i think they should go for someone who can be a genuine badass again. for that reason eventhough i love 23 i think sabretooth or Daken should be wolvey and actually join the X-men- having a character the others worry may kill the badguys at any moment (like logan used to provide)would be ace.

Also though have you noticed the all new x-men happen to be visiting Jimmy at about the same time 616 Logan dies? he has to be a candidate.

Also worst case scenario is they conform to Battle of the Atom future and Jubilee takes over (yuck!!)

Technically sabertooth is an iron fist villian, I wonder if marvel could use loop holes to introduce him in the MCU?!

You guys realize that people with super powers, mutations, genetic alterations or basically anything that most every comic is about is a gimmick right?

Man, I actually think this looks cool. Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth was the one saving grace of XMO:W, so I'm kind of digging that cover. A lot!

We already know that someone is going to be taking up the mantle from a previous report, so this is obliviously leading into that. No assumptions taken, just some common sense used.

so [frick]ing lame. they did gamma corps. now its time for this bullshit.

and the fact that x 23 is in it makes it that much shittier.

marvel comics is a joke and needs to be rebooted.

So Wilding reports that Marvel will get rid of X-men in January (No More Mutants) but now we know they're still making comics with X-men comics in January
rabid

It's part of a larger story. They're not trying to take away Fox's mutants. They're prepping Earth's mutants to be Avengers for the planet in the final battle. Plus the depowering would realize Red Skull's greatest dream: giving Earth back to the flatscans.
No powers won't mean they'll stop fighting... and if the universe is rebooting, then it hardly matters what happens to anyone because the consequences will be the same in the end.

First pic looks like Logan Weapon X from Age of Apocalypse. And speaking of AoA, Sabretooth was awesome in it. But yeah, use his death to create new things, we could use a break from Wolverine saturation...
