The Wolverine: Exactly What You Would Expect

I went to the cinema expecting to see a movie with lots of Wolverine fighting ninjas and a bit of an improvement on X-men origins. As with many movies of this genre it begins with our main character having become reclusive and hiding from his problems. Also he looked like Johnny English from Reborn with the long hair and beard and that was a joke.

I'm already thinking about how clichéd this movie is. It is a little slow to start if we discount the opening scene with it being mostly introducing a whole new draft of characters. The opening sequence is exciting though with the dropping of the bomb on Nagasaki providing the visually stunning opening that we regularly enjoy in comic book movies.
Other than the title character the other parts are a little thin. I found myself unable to engage with most of the them and the relationships between them weren't particularly well structured or convincing. But then the action gets going and things gets exciting with incredibly well choreographed chases and fight scenes. When this flies it really does soar. The later scenes between Logan and his new love interest seem a little forced in that they appear to have been shoe horned into the film unnecessarily feeling out of place. Later the film gets it to full swing again with more amazing scenes and some great twists at the end.
Overall the movie was rather like the all the others we have seen. It is quite similar to X-men origins with yet another voyage of self discovery for Logan as it also was in X-men 1. The main villain: Viper was rather weak in that she lacked an interesting personality with nowhere near enough insanity or badassery. Some parts of the film are poor and tend to drag but others really make it worthwhile watching. If you're reading this then you a probably going to see it anyway or already have. For me in general it was a good film but not a great one a conclusion suitable clichéd for this film.
