X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Star Tye Sheridan On Why He Felt Sorry For Oscar Isaac And Possible MCU Return

X-Men: Apocalypse's Tye Sheridan has opened up on what it was like working with Oscar Isaac on the 2016 movie, admitting that he felt sorry for his co-star. The actor also comments on returning as Cyclops.

Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac has talked openly about his (mostly negative) experience working on 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, expressing his disappointment with all those prosthetics he was forced to don. Now, Cyclops actor Tye Sheridan has admitted to feeling sorry for his co-star on the movie's set.

"I just felt so bad for him [on X-Men: Apocalypse] because we were outside shooting in Montreal in the summer," the Dark Phoenix star admitted. "It can get really muggy and warm. It's a bit like New York. He just had all these prosthetics and this crazy cape thing, and I remember the way he would sit down. He couldn't even sit in a chair. He just had to sit on a stool that was elevated."

"He just looked uncomfortable all the time. I just remember looking at him sometimes and feeling so sorry for him. So this was a much better experience as far as comfort."

Sheridan is referring to The Card Counter, the latest project he got to collaborate with Isaac on. As for his possible future as Scott Summers now that Marvel Studios holds the rights to the X-Men, it sounds like he's uncertain about returning (a shame considering how much fans liked his take on Cyclops).

"I don't really know. I mean, I think what I love about the 'X-Men' franchise is that it's exploring really important things, I think historically, if the franchise kept that going, that would be really interesting to me," Sheridan explained. "But I think it's obviously, the context of who's involved, what the films are about - I think it's hard to say."

Chances are a new Cyclops will be cast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's X-Men, but you have to believe Kevin Feige might at least consider bringing back a few of the same actors. Ultimately, it depends on what this take on mutants looks like and whether they're going to be a young teenage team or established heroes who, for some reason, are only just now making their presence felt.

Would you like to see more of Tye Sheridan's Cyclops?

B1tch please. He's Moon Knight.

If Marvel nail the show, we'll be feeling sorry for you. Although reading Tye's comments in context... yeah prosthetics suck, but I guess there's a good payoff. e.g. Paul Bettany.

The closest we got to seeing the bad ass that cyclops is was the scene in the plastic prison when Professor X got gassed and kidnapped. He whooped up a couple of Guards but then got bitchslapped by Lady Deathstrike! James Marsden was always perfect casting!!! Nobody gave him the chance to shine though as all the focus was on wolverine being the badass. I’m sure the MCU will rectify that.

@GeekFreak - he really didn’t get a chance to shine in Foxmen. It really became Wolverine and friends after X-Men. Such a shame

@Arthorious - In the 'madness' of the multiverse, I wouldn't hate Marsden reprising the role, but I imagine Marvel will go young reboot.

@GeekFreak - James Marsden was pretty good but my pick for Cyclops would’ve been Armie Hammer. But… you know… we won’t be seeing that dude ANY time soon. His career is done!

Depending on the context of the story, when they finally get around to rebooting X-Men I hope they cast characters like Cyclops around 30 years old. I never really felt like the young cast from Apocalypse onward really fit, although maybe that's just because they weren't utilised very well.

Like, maybe if they were actually in college and that was an important part of the story early on then casting a bit younger would be fine, but I can't see that happening. And I tend to look at a lot of the casting choices in comparison to Spider-Man when it comes to their ages, in that I've always seen characters like Cyclops as authority figures to someone like Spidey, whereas someone like Iceman would be more of an equal in terms of age and experience.

So yeah, ideally I hope they look at actors around 30 for characters like Scott, Jean, Storm (who I think should be a founding member in this continuity), and Beast, early 20s (possibly playing younger) for Iceman, anywhere in between for Angel, and then like 50s for Prof X and Magneto. And when they cast Wolverine (hopefully saving him for a sequel) they look at someone in their late 30s, early 40s kinda like when RDJ was cast as Iron Man.

@AC1 - I'm 100% on board with your ideas and I've said it before myself. Have the first film be about the orginal five but they can also add Storm to the team for diversity. Also save Wolvie for the sequal for sure!

@AC1 - I hope they get somewhere 30s actors and actresses. I liked the young cast, even when they were only young because thats just where they were in the timeline, but the material just really sucked. Only young people's stuff they did was watch Return of the Jedi and gave some meta-commentary

@AC1 - I Just really hope the new Xmen don't become Wolverine and his friends again, don't get me wrong, I like the films and most of the great films of Fox Men feature Logan, but it became tiring him being the focus all the time. If they want a lead, they should focus more on Xavier and Magneto, I know this isn't new, but their relationship is an integral part of the Xmen. And either the role of leader or protagonist either be Jean or Cyclops, give the guy an opportunity to shine. Good idea keeping Logan for the sequel

AC1 - 9/29/2021, 5:15 AM
@mrbrownvp1 - Completely agree, Wolverine is one of my favourite Marvel characters and Hugh Jackman's portrayal is a huge part of that, but WAY too much focus was put on him to the detriment of the rest of the team. Hopefully we'll get one movie without Logan, and then if/when he's introduced in a sequel he'll be more of an ensemble cast member or a prominent supporting role rather than the lead.

Seeing as the Fox movies pretty much used Wolverine as the lead in most of the movies, and then Xavier and Magneto in the rest, I really hope Cyclops and Jean in particular get their time to shine. And honestly, I think Marvel will handle the ensemble much better, given how well balanced the Avengers movies have been (obviously Iron Man kinda felt like the main character but almost all of the other characters felt just as important even if they had slightly less screen time).

@AC1 - Giving it more thought they could maybe focus on Xavier and Magneto in the first, focusing maybe in the Giant Xmen roster, wo Logan and then the sequels should focus on other characters, If Logan is going to appear in the second, maybe focus it on Jean and etc etc, it can be tedious there are to many characters, but that's the beauty of a superhero team

How would you guys feel about Francis Lawrence as the director of MCU X-Men?
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 9/28/2021, 4:42 AM
@FinnishDude - not sure. The Hunger Games movies were fine and Red Sparrow was pretty mediocre. Only movie I saw of him that I thought was great is I Am Legend, and thats not really in the same ballpark as X-Men

@bkmeijer - If he did I Am Legend and Hunger Games, his career can go to hell
FinnishDude
FinnishDude - 9/28/2021, 5:49 AM
@bkmeijer - I dunno why, but even though he is far from one of my favorites, I kinda have a soft spot for him as a director. The Hunger Games movies got better with each instalment, Red Sparrow was *this* close to being a great movie (can't put my finger on it, but it was missing that "something"), I Am Legend is kinda underrated and Constantine, despite taking liberties with the source material, was pretty cool. If not X-Men, I wouldn't mind seeing him getting a some kind of MCU project.

bkmeijer2 - 9/28/2021, 8:05 AM
@FinnishDude - yeah I remember thinking it was missing something too. For me it was so big though it kinda ruined the whole movie for me

I did like the young cast they had in the last two X-Men movies, the material they had to work with was just really bad. Same for Isaac, glad he's getting a second shot at a Marvel project

And now Oscar Isaac feels bad for you as he becomes MoonKnight in the MCU and marvel studios recast the X-men.

So that makes him an ex-x-man.

Controversial opinion, but I really liked the new cast for the X-Men. I could actually see them interacting with Tom Hollands Spider-Man, and would love to see what they could do under marvel. Especially Fassbender as Magneto and MacAvoy as Professor X.

MARVEL needs to reboot the X-men as a tv show and have it start similarly to X-men evolution. Have them young (except wolverine, storm, beast) but FOCUS on cyclops and his brother deservedly.

It's like DC they had already a good template of how their characters movie should be adapted in the form of an animated series but they tried hard to reinvent the wheel 🤣.

There are lots of reasons to feel sorry for Oscar Issac when it comes to X-Men: Apocalypse lol

As for Cyclops, Tye Sheridan wasn't a bad Cyclops but I'm ready to get a new actor to play the definitive version. After what the Fox movies did to his character, I think he has the most to prove to general audiences and I really hope the MCU does him justice.
