JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder To Make Comic Book Adaptation Return With 300 Prequel TV Series

Three years after bringing the director's cut of Justice League to HBO Max, Zack Snyder is returning to the world of comic book adaptations for a new 300 prequel TV series. Read on for the latest details!

Earlier this week, social media scooper @MyTimeToShineH claimed that a 300 TV series is in development. Now, the news has been confirmed by Variety, with the trade explaining that it's still in the "early" stages right now.

It sounds like Warner Bros. Television is still figuring out the creative direction of the show as no writer or platform is currently attached (Max is surely the most likely destination). However, the plan is for this to be a prequel to the 2006 movie directed by Zack Snyder.

Talking of the Man of Steel and Rebel Moon filmmaker, Snyder is said to be in talks to direct and executive produce the 300 prequel, marking his first return to the world of comic books since 2021's Justice League Snyder Cut.

Deborah Snyder, who also executive produced 300, would return in the same role alongside Stone Quarry's Wesley Coller. Fellow 300 producers Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann are all also in discussions with the studio.

The franchise, based on Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel, includes two films: 300 and 2014's 300: Rise of an Empire.

300, directed by Zack Snyder, tells the story of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. It follows King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his 300 Spartan warriors as they make a valiant stand against the massive Persian army led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro).

300: Rise of an Empire, directed by Noam Murro, serves as both a prequel and a parallel story to the original. It focuses on the Battle of Artemisium, where Athenian leader Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton) leads the Greek navy against Persian forces, including the vengeful commander Artemisia (Eva Green).

We previously learned that Snyder was once developing a 300 sequel, Blood and Ashes, which focuses on Alexander the Great and his second in command, Haphaestion, a project that's part Greek war epic and part gay love story. Warner Bros. passed - around the same time Snyder left Justice League - and the rights have since returned to the director.

"We got the rights back so we can make if we want it," the filmmaker explained. "I don’t know what the marketplace is for an incredibly homoerotic, super violent, super sexual movie. But maybe it’s perfect."

"[There] was that concept, and it came out really great" Snyder also said. "It’s called ‘Blood and Ashes,’ and it’s a beautiful love story, really, with warfare. I would love to do it, [WB] said no...you know, they’re not huge fans of mine."

Something must have changed, albeit for a small screen prequel rather than a movie sequel. Stay tuned for updates as we have them!

@bobevanz - didn’t watch Rebel moon. Either of them. But I heard there was too much exposition in it for each character so I think this is what he’s really aiming for.

300 doesn't need as equal, sequel or a prequel. What it NEEDS is a "modern" remake for the "modern" audience. and keep the spartan battle armor the same as the OG, Fans respect that kind of thing. Call it the 300 boobies.

@TheJester187 - Snyder’s DCEU was a failure. Every DCEU movie performed poorly at the box office after Aquaman. Part of it was because of the pandemic. But last year, three DCEU movies barely made $531M. Gunn will be gone if he tried to revisit the old DCEU. But he’s bringing some actor and their characters over.

As for IT, horror is cheaper. I have NO idea who tf wanted beetlejuice 2. I guess. Keaton is Keaton and I think they believe in Jenna Ortega being a draw for the movie as well. Whatever. I’ll watch it though since I have AMC A List.

@Mrtoke - Cause they dropped the ball on marketing and not finishing his vision. Finna and new owners stepped in. All I’m saying is don’t put it past them. We can agree to disagree. I hope & believe Gunn will get everything on track for DC we deserve. If not idk sell and wait til the characters rights fall off.

"I don’t know what the marketplace is for an incredibly homoerotic, super violent, super sexual movie. But maybe it’s perfect."

He will convince the Hollywood weirdo pervert circle jerk squad this is a great idea and get them to sink a ton of money into it, somehow as these idiots continue not to understand what a small percentage of the population they are making this for.

Then Snyder (who thinks he is Coppola, but is really Michael Bay) will get another sh!tty idea and sell it to some more Hollyweird morons who dump a lot of money into that.

And on and on and on....
