FAST & FURIOUS: Main Series Will End After Two More Films; Justin Lin Set To Direct Final Installments

It sounds like we're nearing the end of the road for Dominic Toretto and his family, as Universal has announced that Fast 10 and Fast 11 will be the final two installments in the blockbuster franchise.

While F9 may be delayed until next Memorial Day, it looks like Universal Pictures is already plotting the endgame for their blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise. Deadline is reporting that the studio has greenlit Fast & Furious 10 and Fast & Furious 11, with the latter slated to serve as the final installment in the long-running action series.

Justin Lin, who has directed five of the nine installments, is currently in advance negotiations to helm the final two chapters, which are expected to see the return of franchise lead Vin Diesel and his all-star supporting cast of Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Sung Kang.

Production is in its earliest stages, so it may not actually get off the ground until sometime next year, but it seems as though they do have, at least, a two-film arc mapped out to bring this story to an epic close.

No word yet on whether Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson or Jason Statham could appear in the grand finale, but the former's involvement will likely be determined by whether or not he and Diesel can mend fences years after their infamous fallout during the production of The Fate of the Furious.

Some combination of Charlize Theron, John Cena, Helen Mirren, Lucas Black, Cardi B, Ozuna, Tego Calderón, and Don Omar could also appear depending on the events of the forthcoming F9. Another intriguing possibility is Gal Gadot, whose character is currently deceased - but considering the franchise recently resurrected Han, there's no telling who could be next.

Summer 2020 is the time for F9, the ninth chapter in The Fast Saga that has endured for almost two decades and has earned more than $5 billion around the world. Directed by Justin Lin, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster, the film stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Oscar®winner Charlize Theron and Oscar® winner Helen Mirren. F9 is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Vin Diesel, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Joe Roth, Justin Lin, Clayton Townsend and Samantha Vincent

11? Don’t want to make it an even dozen? Not that I think this is an real kind of end. Franchises this big don’t end, they evolve.
