The Avengers Referenced Three Times in Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious may not be a comic book movie, but Avengers sure is. In the new movie just released this weekend, The Avengers were referenced thrice. Coincidence? Hit the jump...

According to ComicBook.com on May 26, it appears as though there are three "The Avengers" Easter eggs in "Fast and Furious 6". Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays a character named Luke Hobbs and each time a reference is made towards "The Avengers", it's always somehow involving his character or perhaps an inference to Johnson himself.

In a scene where Luke Hobbs will be supervising a job the crew will be working, Roman Pearce, played by Tyrese Gibson, makes his statement in regards to who he will be working for.

“So now we work for the Hulk?”

Later in the film, Luke Hobbs makes his way to a surveillance crew that oversees the equipment when one of the managers refers to him as "Captain America".

Finally, Hobbs makes a phone call to a character named Tej Parker and when the call is answered, the caller ID shows up as "The Somoan Thor".

So why all the Marvel references? It should be noted that Dwayne Johnson has shown interest in appearing in a Marvel film. Coincidence? Also, Johnson's character in the new movie is named LUKE Hobbs. He says how he would like to play LUKE Cage. Coincidence?

What do you think? Did the writers just want an Avengers reference or is this hinting at Johnson appearing in a Marvel film? Are fans onto something, or overthinking this? Share your thoughts.

Cheers for putting this up, @ABARy. This is the sort of movie I would go to great lengths to avoid having to sit through, so this is the sort of news that would pass me by. But I think it's awesme that The Avengers are so balls deep in th epublic consciousness that they even show up in pieces of mass market jizm like this.
This The Rock guy has become the new Nic Cage. He's been pimping his own cbm rumors since that one about him playing Black Adam, about a decade ago. So this could be a bit of an in-joke that he really loves The Avengers and really wants to be a part of that frnachise.
I don't think it means that he has already been cast as anyone, though. And if he has, I hope to fvck it's not Luke Cage.
In fact if anyone should be cast in the MCU from these films, it should be that Riddick dude as She-Hulk.
