When I first saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, it was in 2007, and every Indy fan was anticipating the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I had never really seen an Indiana Jones film, I’ve seen clips and heard how great and influential it was to cinema but it wasn’t until I saw it in all its glory did I understand, it was magnificent. The action and adventure mixed with the great characters is one of the many reasons I will always love those films. Karen Allen and Harrison Ford had great on screen chemistry added with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s storytelling and directing. So it stands to reason that when I saw the trailer for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I got goosebumps and it instantly became the movie I couldn’t wait to see, then it came out and it wasn’t great. I thought how did it go wrong, Steven Spielberg returned to direct, George Lucas was involved and Indiana Jones himself came back to star. The movie of course has problems but it wasn’t Harrison Ford or even Steven Spielberg’s fault. The movie had the hard task of addressing the fact that Indiana Jones got old and possibly there could’ve been a better movie made with an older Indiana Jones but this wasn’t it. I look at Mad Max: Fury Road that came out earlier this year and think “Why don’t they do this with Indiana Jones?” Don’t get me wrong I think Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones, but he is older now and even though this is the case they could continue to make more Indiana Jones movies with a new actor. Indiana Jones is like James Bond, he’s an iconic character yet only one actor has played him unlike the multitude that’s played Bond. I’m sure Harrison Ford would come back and don the whip and fedora again but I don’t think his heart is in the character anymore and when he was in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull he was just going through the motions. I know it’s a hard pill to swallow but if we want to see more Indiana Jones movies we need to ask ourselves “Do we need Harrison Ford back for another Indiana Jones?”

@FishyZombie - If they can pass the torch to somebody else, I wouldn't mind seeing an Indiana Jones film set in the 60's starring Chris Pratt or somethin'. Just not Shia. Please not Shia.

Harrison Ford was pushing for Indy 5 as part of his negotiations with Disney for The Force Awakens. He's still invested in the character and is fully capable of playing the part. It wasn't his age that made Crystal Skull suck - it was George Lucas' shitty screen writing... and Shia LaBeouf.
