INDIANA JONES Television Series In Early Stages Of Development At Disney+

It looks like Indiana Jones 5 may not be the last we see of Indy's world, as it's being reported that Disney is in the very early stages of development on a new Indiana Jones television series.

Variety is reporting that Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm are developing a new Indiana Jones television show for Disney+.

It's still very early, so no further details were provided, but both studios have been trying to bring the movie franchise to the small screen for several months now, and have already started meeting with writers.

No word on whether the potential series could be a prequel or a spin-off - or if it will potentially tie into James Mangold's upcoming Indiana Jones 5 - but one thing we can probably safely assume is that Harrison Ford is unlikely to reprise his iconic role as the titular archaeologist since he's already stated that he will retire the character after the upcoming fifth installment.

In addition to this series, the studios are already exploring other avenues to continue the franchise without their leading man, including additional series, new films and other media.

In addition to Ford, the supporting cast of Indiana Jones 5 will consist of Golden Globe-winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Solo: A Star Wars StoryFleabag), BAFTA Film Award-nominee Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange; Hannibal), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of UltronPenny Dreadful: City of Angels), Boyd Holbrook (Logan; The Predator), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black PantherThe Resident), Toby Jones (Captain America: The First AvengerWhat If...?), Antonio Banderas (UnchartedPuss in Boots: The Last Wish), and Oliver Richters (Black Widow; The King's Man).

2x Academy Award-nominee James Mangold (Logan; Ford v Ferrari) helmed the upcoming fifth chapter, taking the reins from 3x Academy Award-winner Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park; Ready Player One), who directed the previous four installments.

Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars StoryThe First Time) - the son of Raiders of the Lost Ark writer Lawrence Kasdan - recently touched up the script after original screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park; Spider-Man) exited the project.

Spielberg will executive produce with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel serving as producers.

Indiana Jones 5 is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2023.

Completely unnecessary and unwanted.

@TopBoy - So why is the movie being made then? I'm tired of prequels, and I'm tired of shows with our heroes already at death's door. This is purely greed and monetization, without the benefit of listening to the fans. Even when the fans are "listened" to it comes back to above mentioned bs. Give me somehting new or, here's an idea, something written by people that actually are passionate about what they're doing...

@TopBoy - I'm starting to find the concept of prequels boring unless they tell a story with new characters set in the same universe. Knowing that the hero will survive takes the thrill out of it for me.Sequels as well. A 3 movie franchise should be the norm and not all movies need endless sequels or their own 'Universe'.

@Matador - Essentially. Not without actual cause. Mando and Ahsoka I'm okay with. The current Indy can literally say at this point:

Why not just do the show and scrap the movie...well, of course:

@The1st - It's too bad they can't find a way to pass the torch Indy 4 sucked LaDouche was horrible son in it. Even if they pass the torch it won't be the same it won't be Indiana Jones but a new character.

Dr. Jones is now where Sean Connery played his dad. The original trilogy are perfect as is. Trying to make new movies with Harrison Ford getting ready for retirement is ludicrous.

@MosquitoFarmer - Well I just didn't understand your comment I guess. Hollywood forever revamps titles. Kong, for example. There's been a lot of time between shows.

@MosquitoFarmer - It very well could be. It's not known what this series will be, and the histrionics about its existence are premature and foolish.

@The1st - No, I'm sorry, I was being a bit testy. But it was moreso just about the upcoming movie, cause I am looking forward to that one; at the very least seeing the trailer. But after Crystal Skull, either way I can't fault anyone who doesn't want any more. But your original comment from way up above is certainly full of valid points, but without even seeing footage of the fifth film is why I guess took a little umbrage. My bad; mean no disrespect!

I know they want this role to work like James Bond….but don’t see it working. The character is too tied to Harrison Ford’s performance.

"Early stages of development" meaning it could fall apart like...in the next hour or so.

Instead of using and abusing IP why don't they just make "original" stuff. I mean they are a "movie studio" not just a building that has rights to an IP. Stop making it completely obvious Disney lol.

Didn't Paramount already do this? The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Aired between 92-93.
Disney really have no new ideas in the tank do they?

I'm utterly excited for this next final outing, but after that, leave Indy alone.

I have a bad feeling that Indy is gonna die and they’re gonna replace him with Phoebe Waller-Bridges character for this show.
I was recently rewatching Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and they removed the original opening that had an elderly Indiana Jones in modern time telling the stories.

They even removed the episode that had Harrison Ford return as Indy.

I wonder why?
