After the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney in 2012, the "House of Mouse" has found great success with the Star Wars franchise. Disney is poised to continue that success by bringing back another beloved Lucasfilm franchise, Indiana Jones.

Although there have been some rumors and whispers about the next film over the years, some concrete news came in the form of Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones) officially signing on to direct Indy 5 in 2016. Another welcome bit of news, was that Harrison Ford will come back to don the iconic fedora once more.

With the release of Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One due this year, the famed director's next slate of films is Indiana Jones 5 and the West Side Story remake. Spielberg is hoping to start filming Indy 5 in 2019, which is currently looking at a summer release date in 2020.

No specific plot details have been revealed for Indiana Jones 5, but it has been confirmed that Shia LaBeouf will not reprise his role as Mutt Williams.

But, he's so old.

(sigh) Can't we just pretend Crystal Skull didn't happen and consider Last Crusade the finale? They're not going to top that.

@BIGBMH - "The Last Crusade" is the only one I even own. Love it! My Dad and I talked about as much as Indy and Henry Jones, even though we lived in the same house, got along, and I never had any issues with him. He was just never the type to engage in communication with us unless it was necessary.

@LSHF - I actually like it more than Raiders in many ways. It's a more emotionally driven film with a more tangible arc to it.

@BIGBMH - I guy I worked with "pretended" that Indiana actually died in the fridge (because of COURSE he did!) and that the rest of the film was a dream of his (that his mind produced) while he was waiting to move on the the afterlife. It would explain a LOT, including the bad CGI ants and monkeys!

@BIGBMH - Agreed. I loved every scene that Henry and "Junior" shared. Sean was outstanding.

@LSHF - I think the intent with Crystal Skull was to capture that Sr/Jr dynamic with Mutt, but the execution was just so unsatisfying. I haven't watched the movie since the first time I saw it in theaters so I can't provide much of an analysis, but aside from the CGI issues, the storytelling and spirit of the film felt way off, like an attempted imitation by another creative team.

@BIGBMH - If this is true, then Steven and Co. were clueless as what to people actually liked about the Sean/Harrison chemistry. It was a very odd film and an even odder (is that a word?) Indiana Jones film.

Here's hoping they learned whatever lessons from the last time. The mutt actor complained a lot after the release of the film, so I don't expect to see him again.

Of course, with the womanizing he did over the years in multiple countries, he probably has several children, so they can always find another actor/actress to play another Indiana spawn.

@LSHF - It might be awkward to see another attempt at the "Indie's kid" story, even if it's done better. Maybe an adult short round would be a good companion.

@BIGBMH - An adult short round sounds good to me.

Just make it about a descendant of Indy. His story is over.
