For the first time in 18 years, Harrison Ford has slipped into the familiar fedora and leather jacket for a new Indiana Jones adventure, marking the return of the character who redefined cinematic action. The film, which began principal photography on Monday, June 18, under the direction of Steven Spielberg, is set in the 1950s and stars Shia LaBeouf ("Transformers"), John Hurt ("Hellboy"), Ray Winstone ("Beowulf"), and Oscar winners Cate Blanchett ("The Aviator") and Jim Broadbent ("Iris"). Shooting continues throughout the summer, and Paramount Pictures has set a worldwide release date of May 22, 2008.
Frank Marshall ("Congo") produces once again, with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy as executive producers. This is the first collaboration for Spielberg, Lucas and Ford since "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" in 1989.
Indianajones.com has posted the first photo of Ford in costume (and, as reported here by Jim Littler on Tuesday, there is 1st day video as well).
In related news, Theraider.net reports that the first Young Indy DVD set will be released just before Christmas this year. It is unknown if the bookend sequences featuring George Hall as the 93-year-old Indy will be included, due to doubts of their canonicity.
