UPDATED: Will Indiana Jones Be Killed Off In The Next Movie?

He just might be if Harrison Ford has his way. The actor apparently wants the next Indy adventure to be his last, and for the iconic character to meet his maker while handing the reigns of the franchise to his son in future instalments..

According to ShowbizSpy Harrison Ford wants the next(5th) Indiana Jones movie to be his last. That's not exactly surprising of course, given that nobody really believed the 68 year old star would be back for more after Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, but apparently he doesn't want Indy to simply ride off into the sunset never to be seen again, he wants him cold asd stiff!..

“Harrison thinks it would be good for Indy to die and pass on his hat to his son in the next one,” reveals an insider.

“George especially is resisting the notion but Steven is considering it. Funnily enough Harrison wanted the same for Han Solo in the final Star Wars but George put an end to it. This time he doesn’t have all the say though.”

George and Stephen of course being Lucas and Spielberg. I have to say, I don't think this would be a bad idea. I love Indy movies(I didn't even hate the last one..too much) and the character but all things must come to an end. As much as I don't relish the idea of Shia Labouf stepping into Indy's hat I think killing Jones off would just add a bit of weight to a franchise that is sorely crying out for it after the last movie resembled a Loony Tunes cartoon more than a suspenseful action adventure. Sure it'l be hard to say goodbye to Ford and Indy, but if its going to be his last movie anyway does it really make that much difference? What do you think?

Update: The Huffington post claims that Ford's reps contacted and said that this report by Showbizspy was completely false. So there you go, no need to mourn ol Indy just yet!

I think I'm one of the only people who really enjoyed the latest movie. While the way it ended with Shia Labeouf was a neat touch, I think it might be time for the franchise to come to an end. It was a nice epilogue to the first three and killing Indy off would be a crappy way to see the character go IMO.

Josh, I agree with you: I enjoyed the film, too, but it would seem they've mined it as much as they can. Besides, Lucas would NEVER allow Indy to be killed off.

I also enjoyed the last for what it was: popcorn movie.
I can see Indy passing the hat, but Shia would need a supporting cast because by himself, he just can't hold it.

put a bullet in indy, you wouldn't let a dog suffer like this.

the original trilogy was a classic, but everything after that you relize indy should of hung up his hat & whip a long time ago.

Labeouf being cast killed Indy for me.

I watched about five minutes of Indy 4 on TV the other night and couldn't get past his shitty acting. I'd rather have a young Indiana Jones film series with a different actor than have one that follows his son.

I agree with Josh and Ed that they should leave it be now, but they aren't! So we are getting thsi film whetehr we like it or not, all we can do is hope that its better than Skull. Like I said, I didn't hate that film. I enjoyed parts of it. Ford was great as Jones again, and I got a great rush from seeing him on the big screen again but the movie they built around him? Tarzan La Bouf swinging with bad cgi monkeys? Fridges being nuked with Jones inside it? Gopher puppets? [frick] off! I bet all Lucas saw when they wrote those bits into teh script was how much money he would make from the Shia Labouf action figure set with hanging vines and real monkey swinging action.

As much as it would hurt to see Indy die, It would be a great way to end the series. But please don't do another film after that, it's all about Harrison Ford as Indy.

Or maybe just end it like Last Crusade, riding off into the sunset or something like that, ending the film. Maybe play clips from all 4 films during the end credits to give a real feel of nostalgia.

I loved all the Indiana Jones movie and they are a landmark in film, so I'm excitted for Indy 5. Can't wait to see Indy back on teh big screen again.

I think that what the fan of every franchise wants is for a badass character to be replaced by an annoying man child. Look how well it worked for the Star Wars prequels!

impossible. Indy dies, the Indiana Jones franchise dies too. LaBeouf cant carry the Transformers franchise and the Indy franchise all on his own. He is not that great of an actor.

FYI, the ad that loads on the homepage today murdered my browser!

The Holy Grail is irrelevant. The immortality of the grail only works on the inside of the great seal that was in the grail temple.

It was whatever it didn't beat the original but I would never blame Shia nor his acting. It's sad how many jaded people we have on this site. lol

Still I'm okay with him dying because I believe it bring great closure to a character. I just don't like them bringing them back.

@DCMarvelComics He can die. Just like his dad died. Did you not watch the last movie? His father died the same year his best friend died.

The Holy Grail only kept you immortal if you stayed behind the crest. If you crossed the crest, the affects wore off. It said that in plain dialect in the movie.

You're dumb.

As far as killing off Indy, I think it would be a great way to end Ford's run. It would bring levity back to the franchise(it lost some of it with the campy Crystal Skulls film).

YOU CANT KILL INDY!! watched all 4 this past weekend yes the last one being the weakest link, if mr. connery was in it i bet that would have saved it!! i love the 1st 3 movies and can watch them over and over again and not get tires of it

The power of drinking from the cup of life worked only until they passed the great seal in the cave. The templar knight explained it to him.

Kill Indy. Let the great movies (Except the Crystal Skull) be and don't "reboot" them. But definitely get someone else to be his son. Shia Le-douche is a hack.

I'm confused, wasn't Indiana Jones and his father suppose to live forever after drinking from the holy grail in the last crusade?

Kill off the franchise? yes.

@ Nell

You only live forever after drinking from the Holy Grail if you stay in that tomb-like place that the knight was in. Indy left, so he's not immortal anymore.

i didnt hate the last film either. it would be ok if indy went out in a heroic death. if they do that though they cannot continue with shia, nobody would see that. however i would also be ok if he just grew old and retired.

Just do a James Bond and recast the character every couple of movies. FFS you just cant kill off Indy, some many adventures left too have. I say Daniel Craig, Aaron Eckhart or Matt Damon for Indy!

PUT SOME DAMN THOUGHT INTO IT AND GIVE HIM AN ENDING RATHER THAN A DEATH!

@JoshW I whole-heartedly agree. The last movie was great, and I saw no problem with it. It fits into my collection as nicely as the previous three.

I would be okay with Indy dying, but i'm not sure about Shia.
Shia is a cool guy and all, but Indiana Jones is waaaaay to iconic for Shia to do it.
