On 12/21/09 Robert Downey Jr. appered on The Late Show With David Letterman. There to promote the movie, David and him got into a controversial conversation...

Letterman: “Now, from what I recall, there was always the suggestion that there was a different level of relationship between Sherlock and Dr. Watson.”
Downey: “You mean that they were homos…”
Letterman: [Laughs.] “Well…”
Downey: “That is what you’re saying?”
Letterman: “In a manner of speaking, yes…that they were closer than just out solving crimes. It’s sort of touched on in the film, but he has a fiancée, so we’re not certain. Is that right?”
Downey: “She could be a beard. Who knows?”
Paul Shaffer: “What are they, complete screamers? Is that what you’re saying?”
Downey: “Why don’t we observe the clip and let the audience decide if he just happens to be a very butch homosexual. Which there are many. And I’m proud to know certain of them.”

This conversation has had a bit of a buzz around it. This also isn’t first time Downey has made this crack, either. Earlier this year, the actor caused a stir in the British press with similar comments. Warner Bros. declined comment on Downey's remarks, but a source close to the film insists studio execs are not upset about the actor's Letterman appearance.

Hopefully, Warner Bros. isn't too upset, otherwise we may not see a sequel with RDJ in it.

Jeremy Brett who played Sherlock on TV was gay
but I don't see Sherlock as gay! Just because
two men are good friends and detectives together
doesn't mean they're homosexuals. I seem to
remember Sherlock being kind of in awe of Feminine
beauty!

It's a bromance! A very forward and at times sexually awkward bromance! :P

I wish there was a like/dislike feature to the comments. I would deffinately put a thumbs up for both Teabag and MovieLad's comments.

Yeah Sherlock and Watson are totally not gay. They just know each other a little too well, spent a little too much time together, and depend on each other a little too much.
