Dragonball Movie Gets New Name

Dragonball Movie Gets New Name

Late changes and reworks are never a good omen for a film, and the news just gets more and more troubling for the widely-panned Dragonball movie--now rennamed "Dragonball Evolution".

No word as to why, but it seems as though 20th Century Fox has extended the title of its upcoming "Dragon Ball" adaptation to Dragonball Evolution. We should get confirmation of this change soon, but the evidence is in the fact that 20th Century Fox has also registered the domain name DragonballEvolutionmovie.com, which currently takes you to FoxMovies.com.

Opening in theaters April 8th, 2009. Dragonball Evolution is written and directed by James Wong, and stars: Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, Chow Yun-Fat, Texas Battle, Randall Duk Kim and Ernie Hudson.

How lame.. this is a feeble attempt to distance the movie from the actual Anime.. I think this will end up like Godzilla 1989 when they made that big hype and NO ONE like how they changed Godzilla into a Terranesarous..I mean it was terrible.. So we'll see what happens here but what the hell was wrong with having him blow to an overgrown alien ape that just seems more believeable to me than less. I don't understand what these clowns are thinking half the time. I have a lot of problems with this movie to begin with. I wasn't much of a fan of the original Dragonball so why start there is beyond me. The cartoon version of Dragon Ball didn't even get introduced over here until after Dragon Ball Z started.. Bad move.. I guess they couldn't get Jet Li to take the roll of Vegita.. lol.. that would have been awesome if he could act the part..

I don't have ANY hopes for this movie. And yes, it WAS a terrible move to bring DBZ in before DB. Which, BTW, DBZ is a much better series IMO. Better characters, much more kick ass fighting, etc etc. It got a little out of hand toward the end...but still, mostly awesome anime. The movie, eeeeeeeh, I don't really know what to think, I have my reservations (ALOT OF THEM) but i'm definitely not going to see it in theatres, so maybe when it comes to TBS or FX, i'll watch it. But not going to the movies or rent it.

oh man, this movie is gonna suck so hard. i want to go see it, just so i can say i was there when fox threw the s for the umpteenth time.

Akira Toriyama should sue fox for destroying his epic series.

y'know what? Why don't they just burn this piece of crap and start from complete scrath, new actors, new director, new writer, new EVERYTHING...and get SOMEONE who knows what they're doing like the WACHOWSKI BROS. I'll bet they could do a great job with it...even decent...this movie doesn't go anywhere NEAR decent...it's Street Fighter the movie and Super Mario Bros. the movie's love mutated love child...

And... for some unexplained reason, i have to go see it! I'll probably the only guy in line having people walking by me, goin'to the most recent chic flic, pointing the finger at me pissin' their pants... but i'm still gonna line up... don't ask.

It seems that in almost every movie post there are people fighting about whether the movie will be good or not. Well FINALLY there is a movie that we can all agree is going to be terrible. Thanks to this suck fest of a film, us comic book fans are finally uniting. And for that I thank you Dragonball Evolution. May you live long and bring suckiness to all who view you.

And don't worry Shaman, I'll probably end up seein' it too. Ha.

I could probably make a better movie, on youtube, with the action figures, and dubbed fight sequences from DBZ than this thing that they're posing as Dragonball, I have yet to hear any of those CLOWNs who were up in arms defending the crap out of this movie a couple of weeks ago saying ANYTHING. They have finally come to a realization that this going to be EPIC FAIL!!!!

I will probably see it, just to see if it is worse than that Super Mario Bros movie they made back in the 90s. My money says it will be so much worse. I have heard that Cowboy Bebop is in development by Fox and have been shivering in fear.

What really irks me about his movie is all the unecessary changes they seem to be making.

-Bulma not having blue hair... okay no big deal but still couldn't they have spent ten bucks on hair dye to keep closer to the character?

-Piccolo not being green... they already went through all the effort of making him look like an alien, why change his trademark green pigment? It doesnt make sense.

-Goku is a big, strong martial artist, so who do they get to play him? The skinny little annoying kid from War of The Worlds! WTF!!!

-They take out Krillin, a very important character in the series and Goku's best friend, and replace him with some other character whose not in the series (as far as I know). This was very unnecessary and shows the writers complete diregard for the series that spawned this franchise. I would suggest a boycott but we all know Fox Studioes never listens to the fans or what they want. Its a shame, really.

Bulma doesn't have completely blue hair, but they have a strip of blue, but it has been stated that they made a blue wig for her, but i'm not sure if it's used in the movie or not

secondly, piccolo IS green, just not very green, he's been locked in a jar w/o sunlight for thousands of years, of course he's gonna be pale. It's been said he turns a deeper shade of green after he wishes for eternal youth

As for Goku. In dragonball, he WASN'T the big strong martial artist. Just strong. If you look back, Goku in Dragonball was very scrawny. just strong, and you can make ANYONE strong in a movie nowadays.

I agree, they should have kept krillin.

What really pisses me off about this, is that in Dragonball Goku was raised in the forest by his grandpa, cut off from the outside world. He wasn't a womanizer, he didn't go to highschool, he had a certain innocence about the world that made his whole take on the world somewhat believable. when the series starts he meets the outside world as Bulma heir to Capsule Corp, Roshi perverted martial artist, Yamcha, Krillin, etc. Now those characters have flaws and their relationships made it extremely fun. Now Roshi is not perverted, there is no capsule corp, no Krillin, Goku goes to high school, I mean it would have been better if they called it Martial Arts Attack or something like that, with a caption on the bottom saying inspired on Dragonball, they have changed it so much that it is unrecognizable.

The thing is that little things that they take out are usually unimportant because its only the big fans that notice. But a Dragonball movie is something that only appeals to fans. Non-DB fans will not see this movie and now neither will the actual fans. This movie will flop soo bad.

And I was hopin' to go to this and get all nostalgiac. Damn you FOX! Damn you!

I think the name doesn't matter in this case. Call it "Fantasy Tale" if you want; this is not "Dragon Ball". Nope; this is only a barely interesting movie more -better change Goku's name and the name (and symbols) of all characters in this movie; this is not "Dragon Ball"-.

I don't want to be rude -maybe/hopely this will be a good entertainment movie-, but this film doesn't feel like a "Dragon Ball"... thing. : /

Greetings all of you.
See ya'.

You see, this is the difference between changing Watchmen and changing Dragonball. Snyder is adapting and altering Watchmen to be a great movie for everybody where as Dragonball is going a "Superman/Doomsday: animated movie" way. They seem to be making this movie for no one! There is NOTHING about this movie that non-fans will want to see and they're twisting and changing it so much that the actuall fans won't want to see it... like WTF?!?!??! Where's the logic in that?

And you know what? No Krillin... no Shaman's night out to the movies!!! Screw DB!!!!
NoobMike
NoobMike - 12/8/2008, 5:27 PM
Shaman I really find your logic to be extremely biased, although I know no matter how bad Watchmen could be, it will never be worse than this so called Dragonball Evolution movie. Who can judge what is to adapt and alter for everybody and for no one?

Someone must have thought those to be good ideas to (although how (s)he's not in a nut house goes beyond my reasoning), making a movie costs money and the owner of the money will try to watch over it. Anyway this will probably be the worst adapted movie in all the history of cinema, hopefully the box office and dvd sales will reflect that.
Shaman
Shaman - 12/9/2008, 9:46 AM
I don't know about being the "worst" though... double dragon is probably my worst LOL.

And when i say "everybody" i mean it in the most general term of the word as in the majority so... 51%. I know that no matter how good Watchmen could turn out to be, there will always be someone somewhere that will hate it because it will not feel or taste or smell the same way as they're used to having it. Same reason why someone's spagetti sauce recepy, regardless if his neighbor's is exactly the same, ingredient per ingredient, will always taste better than his neighbor's. It's called perception and unfortunitally it's highly relative. If your open minded, you get to appreciate little differences in life. If your closed minded, don't bother getting out of bed because life will seem like nothing but a huge dissapointment. Hense why i WILL watch Dragonball either way. The "krillin" part was a joke. I love the little guy but if he's not in the movie, there might be a good reason for it.
