ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Star Evangeline Lilly Is "P***ed Off" About Its Late Release Date Outside The US

Because of the World Cup, Ant-Man and The Wasp is being released in most overseas locations over a month after North America. Now, Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly have revealed how they feel about that...

The World Cup takes place over the next couple of months and that's sent release date schedules overseas into chaos. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom debuted overseas weeks before the US but Ant-Man and The Wasp and Incredibles 2 are going to be a month late for those outside of North America.

Needless to say, fans aren't happy and it seems ridiculous that studios think moviegoers will decide to miss huge new blockbusters simply because they'd rather stay at home to watch football instead.

Well, it turns out that Ant-Man and The Wasp
stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly also aren't best pleased about the delay. "They always do that," the latter points out, clearly frustrated by this. "Then what happens is people just pirate the movie and they see it in the worst way possible, like some shitty version online, instead of going to a theater. They go in the end, but I don't like that staggering. I'm really going to get to the bottom of this for you. I'm as pissed off about it as you are."

Rudd also seemed perplexed, adding; "I don't understand. Let me see if we can maybe get the World Cup moved." Unfortunately, it still hasn't been moved in preference of the Marvel movie and Disney has paid no attention to fans overseas who are frustrated by the whole situation. Will you choose to watch Ant-Man and The Wasp online rather than wait? Share your thoughts in the usual place.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hasn't come out here (New Zealand) yet... Ant-Man and the Wasp comes out here 5th July, is thar different from the US?

We're a Rugby nation, the FIFA World Cup is big here, but not THAT big.

@obarium -

No. The US gets Jurassic World on June 22nd and Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6th
(I'm kind of surprised they don't go for a Wednesday opening on the 4th)

Am I overseas? No.
I don't see the problem

@MarvelDCAllDay - This may sound surprising to you (stay with me), but you aren't the only person in the world.

@MarvelDCAllDay - It can effect the whole box office result as people look to pirate the movie instead. So if you like it, this will effect whether they consider making a sequel or not.

@Origame - Let's be honest. This isn't what will decide whether Marvel feels like making a third movie.

@ScionStorm - It could be. Great movies have failed for less.

@Origame - Ant-Man isn't just a movie. It's a franchise IP and it is part of the Marvel Studios engine. If it doesn't do so well they will go back and pull a Ragnarok out of the franchise sooner than dropping out of a sequel.

@ScionStorm - ...or they'll pull a Hulk and only stick him in team ups.
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 6/13/2018, 5:06 PM
@Origame - Hulk has not gotten a sequel for completely different reasons involving distribution rights and other legalities. Given they completely own all rights to Ant-Man, they could never pull "a Hulk" in that respect.

@ScionStorm - Considering Spider-Man, they could totally find a way if they wanted to.

This surely hurts antman and the wasp in the long run.

Pirating has become very sophisticated nowadays. We get high quality versions (maybe a part of the screen is missing or tad blurry) within days of release.

Yeah. And sadly not many people realize the problem with pirating, like it's some kind of statement. When really it just makes the process of both getting the movies we love and just being able to watch the movies more and more challenging.

@StormXmen123 - don't forget the films with the Chinese certification bit at the beginning, ripped straight off the cinema files

@StormXmen123 - It may hurt the film's overall haul, but the question must be asked, why would Marvel release the film at that particular time? The World Cup happens every four years, and has done so since the 1930's (apart from a rather large skirmish that started in '39). I actually want to watch this film a little less after that statement. I truly hope they were joking.

I'm very unhappy about this as well. The World Cup might negatively affect the release, but so might the delay. We'll see...

@Kyos

Ant-Man and the Wasp was never going to be HUGE. It will probably make 600 mil.

Apart from a couple of times during WWII the World Cup has been played every four years since 1930. In terms of scheduling it’s hardly a surprise event in the calendar. I wasn’t aware of the month delay so I might watch it ‘unofficially’. But I always see the MCU films in the cinema at least once or twice.
Origame
Origame - 6/13/2018, 3:36 AM
@kukurik - Yeah, this is definitely poorly thought out. Why not have it ALL scheduled around that time after the World Cup?
sickboy76
sickboy76 - 6/13/2018, 4:04 AM
@Origame - because the septics didn't qualify for the world cup, they're releasing it in July. If they'd qualified I reckon it would have been moved. Don't understand why UK isn't getting a July release as England won't make it past the 2nd round
Origame
Origame - 6/13/2018, 2:19 PM
@sickboy76 - It's for all overseas markets. Not just UK. The World Cup is basically to the rest of the world what the superbowl is here.

[frick] THAT. The U.S. kept getting the MCU films a week AFTER it released overseas. I know this will open like a month after but who cares, they'll get it anyways.
