Jonathan Majors Avoids Jail-Time; ANT-MAN 3 & LOKI Actor Sentenced To 1 Year Of Counselling

Former MCU star Jonathan Majors was sentenced today after being found guilty of assault and harassment of ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari late last year, and, as many predicted, the actor will spend no time behind bars.

The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki star was found guilty of two misdemeanour counts of harassment and assault, as well as not guilty on two additional charges of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree. After a recent sit-down interview with GMA backfired, some industry insiders believed that the judge might decide to give Majors a "taste of jail."

“The judge has a wide variety of tools at his disposal at sentencing, including anger management, community service, other programming and jail time. If the defendant says anything to piss off the judge, or insults the integrity of the judicial system, I could easily see the judge giving him a taste of jail,” noted Cary London, a civil rights and criminal defense attorney at Shulman & Hill.

However, Majors escaped with one year of domestic violence counseling, despite an emotional victim impact statement from Jabbari.

“He is not sorry and has not accepted responsibility. He will do this again. He will hurt another women. This is a man who believes he’s above the law,” Jabbari said. “I had a career and life and body, all of which he’s damaged.”

The trades announced that Marvel/Disney had severed ties with Majors almost immediately after the news that he'd been found guilty broke, which would obviously seem to suggest that they were waiting for the verdict before making their decision - though some insiders believe that the studio was never going to move forward with Majors as Kang regardless of the outcome of the trial.

As for the next Avengers movie, "The Kang Dynasty" subtitle has now been officially dropped (no surprise there), and the project is being referred to internally as "Avengers 5" for the time being. To what extent the current story will be altered remains to be seen, but rumor has it that Marvel does still intend to utilize Kang as an important (though maybe not quite as important as he would have been) character moving forward, and are currently searching for an actor to replace Majors in the role.

Will Majors be able to get his career back on track? Plenty of Hollywood stars have done so after being accused of and found guilty of worse, so we wouldn't be at all surprised.

@WhatIfRickJames - Agreed. Jabbari is trying to sue him now though, so i think it's going to go on for a bit, but Major's probably has a better chance at winning with this suite compared to what went down with the New York office.

@WhatIfRickJames - For sure, and that one will hopefully be televised! I'd imagine in a couple years with enough of these, Ryan Murphy will continue his american crime series with the Depp and Majors trials.

@Ryguy88 - Exactly.

I’m sorry, but counseling is only as effectual as the person wants it to be.

An actual doctor can shoot you with medicine, and there’s an effect whether you like (or want) it or not.

Counseling can have absolutely no change on a person’s behavior.

@Ryguy88 - Also DV counseling has a poor success rate, at least it used to. I haven’t checked in several years. It’s also like any type of counseling. For someone to make changes, they have to be invested in doing it themselves and not just because they have to do it.

@Origame - Third degree (negligence) and not guilty on intended assault/abuse. Clear difference of a violation vs a misdemeanor or even felony charge i'd say.

Anyone can say anything....and if it involves domestic violence? Even if the person is cleared of all charges, it will still appear on their record the rest of their life.

Our judicial system sucks.

You can repeat your bullshit as many times as you like. The fact is he beat the shit out of her and like most domestic abusers, is getting let off with the equivalent of a warning. He’ll do it again and the consequences for the victim will be worse the next time. You’re right. The judicial system does suck.

@Origame EskimoJ - This is pretty typical for regular people too, not the well off. Even when it is clearly domestic violence, a guy might get arrested, but they’re not gonna spend any significant time in jail unless it’s a much more serious case, repeat offender, etc. I’m not trying to minimize what happened here either.

Calm down you sexless dorks.

You only saw the tapes from outside the vehicle. Just like me. You didn’t see shit inside the vehicle. The jury, however, saw enough evidence to convict. And the motherfucker got off with a slap on the wrist. So saf that you dweebs feel the need to side with a dude that hits women (this one isn’t the only one) because in some twisted way you feel like famous men in your comic book fantasies are victims of some “woke” emasculation agenda.

Am I projecting here? Yes. But deep down you know I’m right.

@Monkeyballs2 - first of you have a hard time understanding simple concepts.

I challenged the phrasing of saying he beat the shit out of her. You can be guilty of assault and not beat the shit out of someone.

There being maximum penalty for a crime doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the correct sentencing.

Yes the jury found him guilty, I’m not disputing that. But clearly by what is seen the judge decided that 1 year probation and counseling was adequate. That doesnt make him any less guilty of what he did, it’s just the appropriate punishment. I’d imagine if the evidence and footage met the “he beat the shit out of her” description, he would have received the maximum punishment.

You’re just picking and choosing what you want to acknowledge so you can make your argument.

You also didn’t see what happened inside that car. So don’t act like you’re clairvoyant to the details.

Jonathan Majors was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment. From what I’ve seen that is correct. I think this dude was in a bad situation and made some very poor decisions. I think she negatively contributed to the situation but that doesn’t excuse the choices he made.

Life isn’t always black and white and a simple as you make it out to be.
