AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Star Jason Momoa Says He's "Extremely Proud" Of Sequel; Talks DCEU's End

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters tomorrow and, unfortunately, things aren't looking good for the final DCEU movie. Right now, all signs point to it being a critical and commercial disappointment and the fourth failure in what's proven to be a disastrous year for the brand.

James Gunn, who leads DC Studios alongside veteran producer Peter Safran, hopes to put the DC Universe back on the right track with 2025's Superman: Legacy. Unfortunately, even if it's exceptional, there's no guarantee moviegoers will be willing to give this franchise another chance.

Back to now, though, and poor Jason Momoa has the unenviable task of promoting the last DCEU movie pretty much on his own.

In an interview with Etalk, the actor shared his belief in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and its role as the final DCEU release. "I think it's a really great movie that sums it all up. You get to see where he's at, and it's a pretty cool journey. It's been 12 years, and the DCEU is at its end. I think this is one of those movies that you want to see it all get tied up, and I think it's a really good way to finish it all."

"Unless...unless," Momoa continued, "I mean, listen. It is a big universe, and who knows? The cool thing is, it's up to the fans. But we did a great job, I think the fans will be very excited, very proud. I'm extremely proud of it."

He's likely referring to the possibility of either playing Aquaman again in the DCU or probably Lobo. This movie would have to be a runaway $1+ billion success for Warner Bros. and DC Studios to even consider an Aquaman 3 and there's no way that's going to happen (short of a Christmas miracle).

Recently, Momoa addressed the chances of him playing Lobo down the line.

"So Lobo was...I collect comics, and I don't do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I'm like, 'Hello? It's the perfect role,'" he said. "I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it's a f*ck yeah. I haven't received that call, so I don't want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I'm there."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom splashes down into theaters worldwide on December 22, though some screenings will begin tomorrow.

What else is he going to say, he's not proud of it?

I'm really happy for Jason that he can properly end his take on Arthur's story and I only hope that he'll continue on as another character in the DCU (*cough* Lobo *cough*).

One thing the DCU will have trouble with is doing a costume better than this one for Aquaman.

AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM

Has 2 Reviews at Rotten Tomatoes 1 Fresh and 1 Rotten.

Rotten

James Wan knows how to make a blockbuster, but in this sequel all his good ideas, and there are many, and every effort to get the audience to have a good time are hindered by cuts, retouches and reshoots. [Full review in Spanish]

Fresh

Is it a good movie? Not at all, but it can be entertaining enough to not make you regret spending two hours of your time on it. [Full Review in Spanish]

@AllsGood - very entertaining from start to finish. Great movie with a simple story but great action, cgi and rapport from the 2 leads

If he is so proud of it, why is he leaving the role?

@Forthas - just like cavil or gadot, its not his choice. gunn believes the DCU revolves around the foundation of the JL (mainly the trinity) and it needs to be rebuilt with fresh faces.

In public: I am so proud of my work as AquaBro!

At home: 500 showers and I still can't wash this AuqaBro stink off me.
