Although we've known since the very first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer that Andy Serkis will be playing the villain Ulysses Klaw, it was not confirmed until early last month. So, during last night's Empire Awards where Serkis won the Best Actor honor, the Apes star was finally able to discuss his minor role in the highly-anticipated Marvel sequel. "Well, I think I can absolutely confirm it's Ulysses Klaw now because I think the news is out," Serkis told Empire Magazine last night. "I sort of noticed that people [on the red carpets] sort of knew that I was Ulysses Klaw, so I thought 'It must be out then.'" He then clarified that he has a "tiny" part in Age of Ultron and it did not require weeks of filming. "It was really minimal, but I just loved doing it; it's a great character," he said.

Considering Ulysses Klaw is a primary adversary of the Black Panther, who Chadwick Boseman will be portraying in Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016) and a standalone movie (July 6, 2018), Andy Serkis was asked if he will be reprising the Avengers: Age of Ultron character in the future. "That, I know nothing about," he replied. "I truly don't know anything about that. I know that they've just announced the Black Panther movie, but I don't know anything about it." About portraying the character as himself without performing motion-capture, Serkis joked that it was quite a shock. "I hadn't done it in a while," he said. "It was almost like 'Where are my dots, I feel very naked.' It's absolutely all me. I had a lovely time doing it, working with director Joss Whedon who is just great great fun. I think it's going to be an extraordinary film." What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1, 2015.

oh come on Andy...like Duh he's going to be in Black Panther. We all know it. He's going to help Ultron get Vibranium in Wakanda there will be an accident. The whole reason he's KLaw is Klaw is pure sound waves so you need to fully CGI him and they needed a guy that can act and be pure CGI... You're not fooling any of Andy.

Minimal part...Ultron probably tracks him down to South Africa or something, because of his connection to Vibranium and Wakanda, and makes him give up the location of Wakanda or Ultron just straight steals Klaws's stash

Marvel movies need to improve the quality of their villains. I just want 1 Hans Gruber level baddie

That run time had to be inaccurate. It probably was just an estimate at the time. Too much madness and introductions will occur.

Just a little over a little over a month. Can't wait.

@Schmoopy

Agreed! Marvel has great, dynamic heroes but completely underused and lacklustre villains.

Of course he'll be in Black Panther. Isn't it obvious?
Anyway, Serkis is a gem. Love his performances in LOTR and the Apes movies. He already has the look of Klaw down to a tee, so it'll be interesting to see what sort of role he'll play in this film.

I could be alone on this, but I actually prefer it when movies focus more on their heroes than their villains. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the kick-ass, epic villain...but not at the expense of the actual main characters of a film. There's a fine line to walk there, and in a perfect world we'd get both incredible heroes and equally formidable villains. But if it comes down to one or the other, I definitely like the spotlight to be more on the heroes.

Well, he should be in BLACK PANTHER, otherwise, why include a primary villain to a character without them being in that character's solo film?

Anyhow, dude is gonna own this role.

@SauronsBANE

Indeed. focusing more on the heroes than the villains isnt something we really have seen much in the more recent blockbuster-ish CBMs. Plus, its the heroes movie anyway, so they should get the most spotlight. Not to say completely give the villains the shaft, but its not their movie.

Jebus! In all my Deadpool movie craziness, I completely forgot that Civil War starts filing this month. Daredevil, GoT, AoS, then AoU on May 1st...I'm no gonna get ANY work done this spring.

SauronsBANE - 3/30/2015, 10:09 AM
@SageMode Yeah, an Avengers movie has a better "excuse" than most to focus on the heroes more than anyone else. But even then, with all that said, Ultron has the makings of being Marvel's strongest villain yet too...so I have a feeling we're gonna be giving Whedon TONS of credit once this movie hits.

@VisualMaximus Agreed, Serkis is going to kill it in this role if/when he pops up again in Black Panther and has much more screentime to really flesh out the character. BP will definitely need a worthy foe in his first solo movie, so hopefully Serkis is up to the challenge. I'm not too worried about him at all, though I have a feeling BP will have a few different villains for him to face.

Let's not forget Grant Ward, Whitehall, Calvin, and Garrett on AoS. They've all been fantastic.
