Aaron Taylor-Johnson put himself on the map with Kick-Ass, a movie that remains something of a cult classic (even after causing controversy when it was first released).

From there, his star would only rise thanks to lead roles in blockbusters like Godzilla and Avengers: Age of Ultron. The latter brought the actor into the MCU, though it would be a one-and-done for Taylor-Johnson after Quicksilver was killed by Ultron in the midst of the sequel's final battle. 

While he remains the rumoured frontrunner to play the next James Bond, the Bullet Train star has definitely been a little more selective with projects in recent years. Based on what he recently told Esquire, that might be down to how he feels about those big budget movies. 

"There was Kick-Ass and then there was Godzilla and Avengers, and all those things lined up for me," he said of how the 2010 adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book series led to bigger things for him in Hollywood. However, he'd go on to admit, "I didn’t really care for them."

"I wanted, purely, to be with my babies. I would say I was probably not ready to be in that position anyway—it was too early. But yeah, I also slightly didn’t give a f***."

Taylor-Johnson will return to the blockbuster realm with Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter, a movie the site describes as being set before the villain first crossed paths with Spider-Man. 

As you might expect, the actor was tight-lipped about what fans can expect, though director J.C. Chandor did share a few new minor details. "Sony probably doesn’t want me to lead with this," he says, "but the story is a tragedy. When the final credits roll on this film, if you’ve been paying attention, you won’t have the feeling that this is all going to end great."

We'd assume the movie will end by having Kraven begin his descent into villainy, setting the stage for him to eventually hunt down the web-slinger. We just hope the plan isn't for him to join The Vulture and Morbius' not-so-Sinister Six. 

Kraven the Hunter is set to be released in theaters on August 30, 2024.

Was always dissapointed he never came back to the MCU, but that was probably the deal "One and done", but also if there were plans for quicksilver long term, surely they would have gotten another actor more willing to sign a multipicture deal? eh i dunno.

I find it hard to beleive he didn't care for Kick-Ass though, as he came back for the less than stellar sequel.

I'll check out Kraven (on a streamer), but i hope it's either him or Cavill for Bond

LMAO..."Yeah, all those other blockbusters I was a part of we're kinda lame...but now I'm loving starring as a Spider-Man villain in a Spider-man-less movie made by a studio with one of the worst superhero movie track-records in the business!"

The quote is so badly misrepresented I'm not even sure it can be called journalism, we're missing actual sentences in between. Here's what he said for some real context:

I would imagine that a great deal of actors feel the same way, yet most don't voice it because they'd come off as spoiled, entitled, ungrateful douchebags like this guy sounds like.
There are plenty of people that don't love their jobs or tasks they have to perform at their jobs, but a paycheck is a paycheck and when you're making millions to stand in front of a camera and repeat lines that someone else wrote while other people are out there actually busting their asses and making chump change, you come off as an asshole.

Kick-Ass was his breakout role that made his career. Kraven may well be the role that ends it.

While he might come off as maybe a little self-centered it also says that he liked to keep his feet on the ground and knew where his priorities were, being close to home instead of losing himself in the limelight of franchise's blockbusters and Hollywood. I can respect that.

Still hope that Marvel gives him a call for Secret Wars though, it's now or never.

Kraven looked decent in the trailer so hopefully it delivers exactly that. But Sony has to release it earlier next year and not wait until freaking October.

I totally did not recognize him in Tenet...



Pretty good actor. James Bond? No but I would love to see him as Rick Flag, or a militaristic centered person in the MCU or DC. I suspect he will do a great job as Kraven but the movie will probably fall under the weight of bad writing given Sony's track record.

Capitalism really has y'all in a headlock because someone who makes millions of dollars is just as likely to hate their job as someone who lives below the poverty line. I make twice as much money now than I did 10 years ago and I still have days that are equally as stressful. I applaud anyone who moves up a couple tax brackets and becomes 100% Zen, but the reality is is that if you started making 6 figures and your job was a crappy experience, your opinion of said crappiness likely wouldn't be suppressed by how fun it was to make 6 figures

@OmegaDaGrodd - almost always when you make 7 figures your expense in other areas go up accordingly... not to mention personal trainers, nutritionists, fortress like houses, security, etc. that becomes required to maintain a level head in daily life under the pressure of being a 'star'.

He was kind of terrible in Godzilla, Kick-Ass 2 and Avengers and I'm sure he'll be terrible in Kraven too, but he's a good actor when he's not doing such generic garbage. He's a bit like Nic Hoult where he's much better in quirkier, character actor roles. They both seem really well cast for Eggers' Nosferatu at least

honestly think RDJ was spot on when he recently said AOU was just "content", just an insanely boring and empty slog and the whole thing's tinged with some awful yellow color grading. Really feels like a movie made purely just to hit a release date and make money with no real sense of passion behind it whatsoever
