Chris Evans Says 'Captain America' Is Still Home Searching In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

When BuzzFeed spoke with Chris Evans on the Avengers: Age of Ultron set earlier this year, he had just filmed a battle sequence with 'Thor' Chris Hemsworth which was described here. "We're buddies!" said Evans of his camaradarie with his Aussie castmate. "We’ve been on a little bit of a ride doing these movies. You make really good friendships. It sounds cliché to say: ‘We all get along so well!’ We really get along phenomenally well. It’s like summer camp." Writer/director Joss Whedon also dotted on his ensemble cast's relationships: "They were very trusting the first time around. But this time, [there’s an] ease and rapport, and just the fun that we have. Everybody’s got franchises and babies. Everyone’s very comfortable with themselves." About the  comfort he now has in the Captain America role, Chris Evans explains that "In the beginning, you’re just so grateful. You’re very timid. You’re lucky you got invited to the barbecue, [and] you just don’t want to get in the way. Now, you feel a little more at home, and it feels a little more like a collaboration that you contribute to. If anything’s changed, it’s just my feeling of ‘welcomeness.’ Is that a word, welcomeness? We’re going to make it a word, [frick] it."

Chris Evans then talked about where we'll find Steve Rogers in Avengers: Age of Ultron, following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. "He’s still looking for a home, probably a metaphorical home," said the actor. "He’s always felt comfortable as a soldier. And he likes structure. He works well taking orders. But when that dynamic turned on him, he’s now left to depend upon his team, the Avengers. There really is no one above them telling them what to do. They’re kind of having to operate independently. So there’s a lot of leaning on one another, but there really isn’t a kind of clear chain of command. And I think Cap looks for that. I think he’s looking to understand where he belongs, not just as a soldier, as Captain America, but as Steve Rogers, as a person." That'll surely carry over when he returns in Captain America 3 in 2016, which Chris Evans says he's looking forward to as well as another Avengers movie. "So halfway through!" he said of the last two Marvel films that he's contractual obliged to appear in. "I mean, I’m going to miss these when they’re done. I really will. This has been a lot of fun, and they’re only getting more fun. Especially because there’s a trust in Marvel that you’re going to make something good. It would really be lousy to be stuck in a contract knowing that you’re making shit. And I just don’t feel that way. It’s really a blessing that this kind of fell in my lap. Sometimes you don’t really feel deserving of it. But I’ll take it." What do you think?

I did too. It'd be a major chore to dislike him in any of the movies.

I will admit I've enjoyed all the Marvel Studios movies at least a little, and haven't been disappointed yet. I get that this makes me a disney princess, but so what. I don't believe in guilty pleasures. I was a proud nerd in high school, and I'll say it loud still.

Because Joss Whedon is a horrendous writer when it comes to balancing the proportionate stardom of a character amidst a team conflict. Which is why we have received an 'Iron Man 2.5: Tony and Friends' film instead of a REAL Avengers movie.

@ruadh Seriously, he's ridiculously hard to dislike. The character himself is basically an every-man version of Superman, and Chris Evans was just absolutely perfect casting. What's not to like?

@SauronsBANE- Thank you. The argument that people apply to characters like Cap and Supes being "too good" and "boring" is a flimsy and weak rebuttal from those who don't know how those characters work.

I guess if you have an unwavering faith in your ideals, stand strong for values, act courageous and self-sacrificing, and have hope people can rise above it all and work together for a better tomorrow, you're just boring to care about.

I've made this point a few times, but I sincerely feel it makes no sense for him, or any of the heroes, to die. Marvel Studios is in the business of making films, but they aren't like every other studio where they can come up with different content. It's always going to be based on their comics, and so they gotta maintain their money makers. Right now it's Iron Man and Cap, clearly.

Black Widow is also a very viable box office option, especially after Lucy.

So, it you look at it from the perspective of the studio being able to maintain itself, and not simply adapting comics for the sake of simply being true to the source material, I will be shocked if they kill ANY of the heroes.

And also, as usual, I have to point out...kids.

@PrinceAwesome- I liked Cap in The Avengers. He was respectful, heroic, tough when he needed to be, and even had a hint of tragedy to him. I never saw the movie as "Iron Man N' Friends."

@SauronsBANE It's better than Iron Man IMO. Easily my favorite of the Phase 1 films and is still in my top 5 (CA: TWS, GOTG, AVENGERS, CA: TFA, IRON MAN 3; going to get so much shit for the last choice).

@CaptainObvious Ha yeah, standing up for your ideals and being uncompromising in what you believe in is apparently too boring for a lot of folks. Somehow, that's what makes him even MORE interesting and compelling to me. What a world we live in.

He was great in the first Avengers, but honestly he is not really a great actor. Very hit and miss. He didn't bring anything interesting in Snowpiercer.
