Jon Favreau Weighs In On AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer Leak And Joss Whedon's Direction

When Independent.IE caught up with Jon Favreau at the BAFTA Los Angeles Jaguar Britannia Awards, the Iron Man director was asked about his executive producing duties on next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, and he also praised the much-anticipated sequel's writer/director Joss Whedon. "With the Marvel movies, they'll come together pretty quickly at the end because there is so many effects to them," started Favreau. "But Joss Whedon really has a handle on the tone and the characters [that] I'm excited to see. The first Avengers movie was the hard part because [Whedon] had to pull them all together and now he just can have fun with them. You know, you got the Hulkbuster suit in there, the Vision, and you've got all these great aspects of it that I think he's really smart in what he's exploring. And of course, Civil War is coming with Captain America, so anybody who reads comic books knows these are really great storylines." Meanwhile, Access Hollywood had asked Jon Favreau about the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron leaking online just a few days before its planned debut. "Well, by the time I knew it happened, it had already been released officially," he admitted. "I remember back during Iron Man, footage snuck out from [San Diego] Comic-Con. I think what it shows is that there is tremendous enthusiasm for it, and fortunately it was ready to go out officially. You know, things don't always happen the way you want them to in the information age, but I really love the reaction that the trailer got and I think it's wonderful." Jon Favreau went on to praise Robert Downey Jr. and his future endeavors which prompted the Access Hollywood reporter to blatantly ask the filmmaker if he would be involved in an Iron Man 4. "I don't know what's going with Iron Man 4, you have to talk to Robert or [Marvel president] Kevin Feige."

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.

He was hilarious in Swingers alongside Vaughn, I think that's one of his more underappreciated projects.

Favreau was great as Foggy Nelson in Daredevil. That movie isn't great, but the performances by Ben Affleck, Jon Favreau and Michael Clarke Duncan are awesome.

That's not Elvish!

Sorry, what were talking about? Favreau's a producer on AoU? Why? I wonder if he's actually contributed anything or if it's just a contractual thing. (Like Stan Lee's credit.)

I always thought he would have done a great job directing Avengers. I enjoyed both his Iron Man films tho the second kinda rushed the third act and earned the typical "bad movie" label nerds dish out when a CBM falls a bit short.

Anyway, what happened to that CBM Award thread?

If there is an Iron Man 4, he is the only director I wanna se attached. Iron Man is still one of the best movies to come out of the MCU.

Favreau is an awesome director who meant a lot for the Marvel universe, but Whedon has taken over the torch now and I believe that he's gonna show us a hole new level of kickass awesomeness with AoU.

I am so thrilled about this movie

If it would mean Jon Favreau's return, I wouldn't mind another Iron Man film. He's a great director and I believe he deserves a second chance.

@0mega As someone who loves to cook, I could feel his passion being echoed in the role; not necessarily for cooking but directing. The BTS looks during the credits illustrated his method approach. Also, I realize how unappreciated John Leguizamo is, especially with a meaty role and the right direction.

A Jon Favreau Inhumans movie is something I could get behind.

I would love to see him involved in the movies again, whether in a directing capacity or reprising his role as Happy Hogan. I think he might have a good chance of appearing in Captain America: Civil War.
