Joss Whedon On His AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Salary Rumors

Joss Whedon sets the record straight on rumors that he's receiving $100 million dollars to write/direct the sequel to 2012's $1.5 billion, top grossing summer blockbuster. "It bothers me," says the Avengers: Age of Ultron director.

Joss Whedon Avengers Age of Ultron 2015

Ever since rumors of Robert Downey Jr.'s hefty payday for The Avengers surfaced (those rumors were true by the way), it's become a "thing" to speculate on how much star talent is grossing for certain films. Hugh Jackman was recently the subject of such rumors and not too long ago, so was Joss Whedon. However, Whedon tells Entertainment Weekly that those rumors are not true. "It bothers me. I think it gives people an impression of who you are that is not one I'm comfortable with," said Whedon, who's hard at work on the script for Age of Ultron. He continues, "I'm making the second movie. Does anybody think I'm not getting paid? But it's not anywhere like what they're talking about."

It bothers Joss because he believes those type of gaudy figures makes people think less of him. "Yeah, I think they would," was his response when asked that very question. "I do feel like it indicates a certain removal from reality that I hope to avoid."

You can read more from Whedon in the latest edition of EW, available on newsstands now.

The movies make so much cash that frankly, I think the talent (including the director and the writing team) deserves it.

I wouldn't think that Joss is doing it for the simoleons only anyway.

Who cares how much he's getting paid?
It makes no difference to us whatsoever.

Just give us a great movie Whedon!

It's because he's a liberal who decries CEO's and company owners that make millions of dollars, but he pretends to be part of the 99% when he is definitely in the 1%. Just like his Hollywood liberal associates, he is a hypocrite.

(note: I don't care how much he makes. He performs a service and should get paid for it. I feel the same about CEO's and anyone who make any amount of money. I don't begrudge anyone who makes more money than I do, just don't be hypocritical about it)

Yea he's real humble. I can tell we he talked about ESB.

Sigh, I trust and believe in Joss but he's grown an ego I don't like.

BTW I don't care how much he gets paid. He has to write and direct the film. It will be good but not as good or big as the first Avengers.

Well, it's probably still an obscene amount that a normal person wouldn't get to spend in a lifetime. Whether 100, 50, 25 or 10 mil.

Disney/Marvel made around 50% of the 1.5 in ticket sales. Money from Merchandising and DVD/Blu Ray.

Marvel has made billions off the creations of others without properly rewarding them! So why should someone working for Marvel finally get a fair cut??

We have many corporations such as fast food making billions while paying their real workers nothing and paying the Office guys, CEOs enormous amounts of money.

The only wrong here is that Marvel-Disney-WB-DC never fairly paid the creators that made their companies. Instead they over-reward creative-nothings like Mark Gruenwald, Tom Defalco, Jim Shooter, Bob Harras, Joe Quesada, Axel Alonso, Dan Didio.

I'd love to see the Avengers cast demand huge salaries then try to reward creators or their heirs that truly created Marvel and the characters they play.
Many of those creators are gone and had little to leave their families while the lazy corporate guys live in luxury and are able to leave Jack's money to their heirs!

@Maestro that should scare all DC fans. "This is Snyder's universe now."

The Nolans wrote the screenplays for the TDK trilogy, Goyer just cracked the story. Although MoS was ambitious when it came to the action scenes, everything else suffered (dialogue, non-linear narrative does not work for Superman).
