Joss Whedon On Possibly Killing Off Major Character(s) In THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Without saying flat-out that someone major will bite the dust in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, director/writer Joss Whedon talks about how he and the Marvel Studios would approach the possibility.

Another segment from Entertainment Weekly's cover story on Joss Whedon's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series has the critically acclaimed filmmaker discussing maybe killing a Marvel icon in his 2015 superhero reassembly, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. “I’m always joking about that. Um…maybe?” says the director/writer (via ComicBook.com).


“But I’d have to have a really good reason, a really great sequence for [Marvel execs] to go, ‘We’ll cut off a potential franchise, that’s fine!’ They know as any good studio does, that without some stakes, some real danger, how involved can we get? We don’t just rule it out across the board, but neither is the mission statement ‘Who can we kill?’ We try to build the story organically and go, ‘How hard can we make it on these people?’ You go to the movies to see people you love suffer-that’s why you go to the movies.” Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, with Godzilla actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen in negotiations to join, Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon from his screenplay, and is is slated to begin production in March 2014 and open in theaters May 1, 2015.

It's Captain America or Thor it has to be one of them.

HULK they ready said that they are going to do a HULK 3 film. Chris Hemsworth only signed on to do Thor 1 and 2 and avengers 1 and 2.


Chris Evans will he is the same thing he only signed on for Captain America 1 and 2 avengers 1 and 2.

it can't be black widow because she dose not have a solo film

I think at least 1 major character(as in one of the main four)should die in this movie, but I can't figure out who because I love all of them.

I don't think any one going to die cause if there going against thanos in the next avengers movie than they need everyone and I think he just joking with the fans. If anything they do something like earth mightiest heroes show where it look like ultron killed thor but enchantress saved him.

i said my opinion about death in a editorial i did about the avengers showdown with Thanos, i suggest they dont kill anyone major in A.AOU so then they can afford to kill of several major characters such as nick fury, iron man, odin, loki, nova, starhawk, groot,drax, hawkeye or pretty much anyone they want just to get across just how powerfull thanos is.

They won't kill Cap. That's like killing Superman in the 2nd JL film.

RDJ signed on for Avengers 3.

Mark hasn't done a Hulk film.

Will either be Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver.

I have theory that after Avengers 3, we will get a whole new cast.

Chris Evans had a 6 Picture deal-The first Avenger, The Avengers, The Winter Solider, Avengers 2, Captain America 3, Avengers 3.

Chris Hemsworth 6 picture deal-Thor, The Avengers, The Dark World, The Avengers 2, Thor 3, Avengers 3

Robert Downey Jr 8 picture deal-Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, The Avengers 2, the avengers 3.

Mark Ruffalo 6 picture deal- The Avengers, Iron Man 3, The Avengers 2, Hulk 2, The Avengers 3, Avengers 4/cameo/hulk 3?????

Sam Jackson- 9 picture deal-Iron MAn, Iron Man 2, Thor, First avenger, The avengers, the winter solider, avengers 2, avengers 3, avengers 3/cameo??

I have a question for all of you. How do the contracts work? If, say an actor is signed on for six films, and after film number three, the studio decides to kill off the character, do they have to ask the ACTOR for permission to do it? Since they signed a contract, can the studio change their mind, or do they HAVE to put that actor in six films as that character? What if the actor wants to be in all six and push for it since they signd a contract?

If an character dies in a film and the actor had a six deal contract, the company has to find some way to give them there limit on the contract, or they can get sued. I'm not really sure how all that works, but I think that's the basic.

Kill Black widow. Nobody is going die because they couldn't kill Coulson off who not a real comic book character who now suddenly alive now it feels like a comic book movie nobody really dies except uncle Ben.

Idk I think if Widow died it would make sense since they've got a new female avenger ready to take her place (Scarlet Witch) and it would make Hawkeye go full badass. He might even start wearing some variation upon his original horned costume, like a batman type deal

Just because they have a six picture deal doesn't mean that they are going to be in six movies. The actor is contracted to be in six movies IF the studio decides the character is needed. It doesn't mean that they are definitely going to have six movies total.
