Joss Whedon Talks More About The Titular Villain In THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

The writer and director of The Avengers: Age of Ultron talks more about why he chose that particular villain to take on Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the highly anticipated sequel, describing him as "a real problem" for the team. Check it out!

"I was pitching Ultron before I took the job on the first movie," Joss Whedon told Total Film at the San Diego Comic-Con last week. "I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to do this, but for the second one, you should totally do Ultron.’" As for why exactly he decided to choose the villain for this movie - after all, many fans believed that Thanos would be the main foe in the sequel after he was introduced in the mid-credits scene of The Avengers - Whedon revealed that he's a big fan of the character and that he has even bigger plans for him in the movie. "Because he’s been a thorn in their side as much as any other character over the years and particularly back in my history. He was great. He’s somebody who can juice things up and he’s a real problem for the Avengers. That’s not always easy to find. It’s not like the Vulture is really going to give them a hard time for 20 minutes." Are you guys looking forward to seeing Ultron on the big screen?

Damn right, Death. I find it insulting that they introduce Ultron as something other than Dr. Hank Pym's invention gone awry. It's the classic Dr. Frankenstein story and would without a doubt make a great silver screen adaption. But noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....Whedon is clearly taking a page out of Singer's book with this one.

Also, there's a reason why Ultron's face looks like an ant. But I'm gonna hold out for more info. I'm sure Pym is still involved somehow with Ultron's origin.

Ultron makes the perfect warmup for Thanos. For the final trilogy you have to go all out and have the GOTG and Avengers going at it first then on to Thanos.

I too really dislike the idea of Ultron being anything but Pym's creation, and normally I would be very very worried. But if anyone has earned my trust its Joss Whedon. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Pym ffs, Stark will probs create Ultron.

Make up for it by being a better villian than Loki.

I don't mind the change as long as ultron is not jarvis who is created by tony stark.

Damn Fox for hanging onto F4, too. I would have loved to have seen Pym, Stark and Richards come together to create the negative zone, with ULTRON running it like JARVIS does, before causing a shit storm by turning on everyone.

I agree that this will probably be a good movie. I just feel if they are going to form the MCU, they should do it right. Lately, I've been pretty disappointed (i.e. the way the have raped The Mandarin). I just don't know what the hell has been going on at Marvel. Everything up to and including the Avengers has been great, but they just seem to be drifting further and further from the source material that has made these movies, these stories great to begin with.

We'll see what we will see I suppose.

Here's a question. Why was Antman the first and only announcement of phase 3? Antman must have something to do with avengers 2.

To be honest Antman is a lame character, with lame powers.

I do have a problem with Tony creating Ultron, Tony is already arguably the star of the Avengers and vastly becoming the Wolverine of the franchise. One of Hank's defining moments is the creation of Ultron, taking that away from him takes away the depth of the character.

I don't agree.

Has it been clearly said that Pym won't have anything to do with the Origin of Ultron. It may have been but the only quote I have seen is that Pym is not in movie. I think someone else has pointed out that in Ultron's origin no one knows immediately who created Ultron. So I know this isn't likely but I think it would be awesome if Ultron's origin is left blank at the end of Avengers. Then they come back with Antman do the whole movie hint at him working on something really big throughout his movie, and then at the end you see it's Ultrons head. Afterwards its a good reason for him to join the Avengers also creates alot of friction as some of the team members obviously don't trust him. You could even have him showing up at the end of avengers saying he has something to tell them but again leave it blank, hypes the audience for Antman and a huge payoff for the hardcore fans. Just a thought, I may have missed the quote where they say he doesn't have anything to do with the origin specifically though.

If Ant-Man's movie is still the whole "splitting up into two generations" (Which i gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of) that could be the reason there's no Pym in A2:A0U

SN: Wasn't Pym mentally ill when he slapped Janet? I mean that's no excuse, but doesn't that have to be taken into consideration?

Magneto not being the father of quicksilver and scarlet witch. Antman not being the creator of ultron. Whatever happen to mcu sticking with the source material. Lol

Pym was only Antman in the first Avengers comic, and then a handful of times afterwards. @Martian, I always liked him as Yellow Jacket better, his powers were more, well, powerful, and I liked the look better. I'm sure Joss and Wright have somethin' special planned for Pym, everyone's upset 'bout Ultron, but we'll see. Like Joss said, from the beginnin' Ultron has been a great villian for the Avengers.

An Age of Ultron movie without Hank Pym sounds really cheap to me.

Sorry, Joss. Marvel could have saved him for the third one, with Hank and Wasp.

So basically they teased Thanos on A1 for nothing. NIce

why's everyone complaining about Stark creating Ultron? One, how do we even know it's him creating Ultron, could be Shield or AIM or someone completely different. I hate when people judge a film when we haven't seen it. It's even worse when the film is out and you look at these critising and contradictory comments.

I think Pym is a former colleague of Stark's that's already in the MCU but hasn't been referred to yet.

Stark probably admired his brain years ago but Pym had mental issues and went into seclusion somewhere to continue his research, experiments and minor inventions.

Part of Pym's mental torment came from the fact that he felt mentally inferior and SMALL compared to Tony. His inventions were SMALL potatoes compared to Tony's, and Tony would kid Hank on occasion, calling him "dummy"...in a ironic sort of way.

As a matter of fact, before Pym went into isolation, he gave Tony a gift: A single armed, mobile "butler" that Hank thought would be an invaluable manual aid to Tony throughout his research.

Although Tony was flattered, the "tech" seemed rather crude compared to the AI Tony had just invented unbeknownst to Hank: He named HIS piece JARVIS...Just A Really Very Intelligent System...

...as opposed to Pym's device, which Tony affectionately calls "Dummy" to this day, in honor of his MIA colleague. His other pet name for "Dummy" is "You" or "U" for short, I guess.

As a matter of fact, "Dummy" may the only piece of semi-functioning machinery Tony has left, if the end of IM3 is any indication. I say "semi" because it looked pretty banged up at the end, tied to a hitch on the back of Tony's ride.

But seeing as how IM3 drove home the fact that Tony is a "mechanic" at heart, I'm sure he'll put the little flat-head screwdriver he picked off of the ground to good use and try to FIX "Dummy." Seems fitting, seeing how it's saved his life once already by giving him his "heart" back when he needed it. And to think: He was going to donate it to a community college!

Or maybe he'll be able to use Dummy's parts for other uses...

...or maybe, Pym's parts will have other uses for The Avengers.

Just a thought.
