Sweaty Hulk.

Talking to Collider on the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron earlier this year, Mark Ruffalo had plenty to say about what we should expect from the highly anticipated 2015 sequel. Apart from a very brief scene in Iron Man 3, we've seen and heard nothing of Bruce Banner since the events of the first movie, so how is he now dealing with being the Hulk? "Banner and Hulk have kind of come to a detente [laughs]. We left this last one with this idea that I’m always angry and therefore I have some control over it, but like anger, when you think you have control over it, you absolutely don’t. So there’s still a wrangling going on and there’s a confrontation brewing between the Hulk consciousness and the Banner consciousness that I think we’re starting to head into right now." It sounds like he'll still be struggling to keep the Green Goliath under control then despite the fact he appeared to have mastered him during the battle with the Chitauri in The Avengers!

Talk then turned to some of the movie's supporting characters, with the actor describing The Vision as his "baby", perhaps giving us a vague idea of the relationship between the two heroes when they team-up to take on Ultron. "The Vision is the Vision," the actor told the site, careful to not give anything too specific away. "He is so dope, and he’s my baby. [Laughs] Yeah, he’s pretty incredible. The idea of him and where he comes from. He’s very independent. It’s a really great character. Yeah, people are going to love the Vision…and Ultron is amazing. He’s amazing. It’s really good." As for what it's been like to work with Paul Bettany (who has previously just provided the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. during post-production, Ruffalo added: "All I know is that I’m happy that I walk in and I leave the trailer and I can go back an hour later and Paul Bettany’s still in makeup. I’m 46 years old so that makes me feel good…sorry Paul, but you should see him. He’s a specimen when he walks onto that thing. He’s like, the perfect man. He’s the Vision." What's interesting about this is the fact that Marvel are obviously bringing The Vision to life with a lot of practical effects, so he obviously won't be a motion-capture creation like Ultron!

Talking of the titular villain, Ruffalo was then quizzed on how much the Hulk interacts with Ultron. "We have a lot of scenes together as a group," he revealed. "I don’t really – I have a couple one on one things with him, but I love him. He’s great, and he’s going to be…it’s like King Lear. It’s great." Scarlet Witch meanwhile is a character that we aren't fully sure will be on the side of the angels for at least some of the movis as we've seen her and Quicksilver aliged with Ultron in the trailer (or it at least appears that way). "It’s not…She’s able to bring out…[pauses] the worst in us. There are people in our lives who can do that, and somehow when you’re an actor you tend to gravitate towards those people, but she’s that bad – it’s like Sid and Nancy. She’s everyone’s Nancy." Is that a reference to her reality altering powers? Could she be the reason why the Hulk takes on his science bro Tony Stark in the Hulkbuster suit? We don't know, but the actor did have this to say about those scenes! "It’s a little bit like Cool Hand Luke that way. “Do you think you could beat me? I’ll beat the crap out of you. Then I beat the crap out of him. It’s kind of like that, but not totally like that. It has a surprise to it, a little twist to it as well."

As for how much we'll hear the Hulk talk this time, Ruffalo wasn't actually sure at the time of the interview, but it does sound like we're going to get a big more this time! "We’re sort of still working it out. He will, we’re just trying to figure out – there’s a couple different places to do it, but he’s not going to have a soliloquy, not yet anyway. We’re working for that. Joss has a couple ideas where to put that." What do you guys think? Share your thoughts below!

Clean this article up.

Oh, and Ruffalo is an awesome Hulk.

Can't wait to see what he does in AAOU.

Scarlet Witch uses her hex powers to bend reality and voila Spiderman appears in the MCU!

It must be, if they wanna make Civil War, Spidey it's a crucial part of that storyline, pretty sure whatever they announce it gonna be good tho.

Like I said on the other article, Bruce's gonna go mad. I hope he does the thing where he just stays in Hulk form.

We left this last one with this idea that I’m always angry and therefore I have some control over it, but like anger, when you think you have control over it, you absolutely don’t.

In other words, what's happening in AOU with Banner is obviously what should've happened with him in Avengers. The "I'm always angry." Line just didn't and still doesn't sit right with me. Ready to see him become the threat that he was "radiated" born to be. lol

Banner always goes through phases with the Hulk. Its one of the most compelling parts about the character - this cat and mouse game between the "hero" and his "alter-ego". No other superhero is so at war with the two different parts of his identity as Hulk/Banner. And you can see it by how hard it is to distinguish who is the right and wrong side of his personality. Mostly its Banner who is in the right because he's the side that's in control but then there are those moments when its the Hulk who is needed to save the day.

I still don't buy the 'I'm always angry' line. Especially when I think back to the end of the Incredible Hulk movie.

I really wish they would have just left the hulk where he was. A good guy. IDK Maybe it will be done well.

I think what they should do is "illustrate" this battle between two egos. That's one thing that I found refreshing about Ang Lee's (yeah you heard me and no you didn't stop reading) Hulk movie. The mirror scene with Banner and Hulk looking at one another and Hulk says "Puny Human" to him was great! In Avengers Ruffalo just stated a deleted scene that happened within The Incredible Hulk, it's one thing to hear about these things but another to see it.

I also meant to show respect to the first scene of Hulk on the Hellicarrier when he's chasing after Widow. Very thrilling and tense moment.

@RamonSuarez I wouldn't say he was in a darker place IMO since he actually seemed more composed and even happier in avengers compared to ho he lived on the run and slept on the streets and tried to kill himself in the arctic.

I agree. More emphasis could be devoted to exploring the inner life of Banner's struggle against his repressed side. I am hoping for an Incredible Hulk sequel so we can get a whole movie to explore the kinds of internal compromises he has to make to keep the Hulk at bay while still relying on it to protect himself and do the right thing.

@Highflyer -

Yeah, I erased that comment because the more I thought about it the more it seems that Banner tried to kill himself before IH and not after it based on what we saw in the end of that film and the Avengers.

Banner seemed to be a peace with himself helping people and had no incidents of transforming for awhile.

@RamonSuarez

Yessssssssssss!!!! There's so much truth to your comment bro. Everything you said just made me think about how much further a potential Hulk sequel could explore this dynamic. If done right, it could truly be something monumental in Marvel film history. I just feel like as if they don't see the potential in the project. Hopefully that changes whenever they announce "some" of their film slate. But yeah man, your post sums it up in all the right ways man. lol

A gabby Hulk should happen though. That phase in the character's evolution was a big part of his mythos back in the 1980s and early 1990s when he was a bouncer and you had the cockier Grey version.

I think its crucial to let Banner and the Hulk continue taking turns for control in their endless war of wills over whose personality should come out on top.

Still just want a movie with Hulk, Doc Sampson, and... Gosh I can't remember Abombs human name... Anyway.

Hulk VS Leader, Doc Sampson helps him.

Abomb the dude (not as Abomb, he shouldn't turn into abomb) just helping him out in some way. I don't think it needs a trilogy, but at least a sequel.

Hulk's bass in his voice is also another mandatory trait they need to work on. The Incredible Hulk's bass in his voice was perfect.

@TheRationalNerd

I really think the lukewarm reception of the IH has soured Fiege off a solo movie for the character. I am hoping, though, that his plan is to rebuild the Hulk's brand after a few Avengers movies to the point that audiences are ready to pay to see a solo feature based around Banner/Hulk. So much potential too if they went and tried a Gammaworld storyline with Leader, Hulkbusters, and of course General Ross.

Hulk voice in the avengers 2012 doesn't match his massive appearance.

Sounds like Mike Tyson's voice.

@LeonardSnart

He had decent dialogue but he acted it out so blandly like he was just reading lines. I'm not expecting an oscar worthy performance just to be Bruce Banner but things only heated up with Ruffalo's performance once he was first contacted by Widow in that foreign country and when he changes in the Helicarrier. Honestly most of the dialogue in Avengers felt forced especially the arguing between the team when they're all supposed to be possessed by Loki's staff. Even Stark and Rogers dialogue was cheesy. When Downey looked at Evans and said "Yeah, I'm starting to want you to make me." I cringed so hard. I just can't take Downey serious, however AOU really looks like it's pushing the acting in the right direction as far as I see.
