Robert Downey Jr: Superhero Movies Are A Little Old; AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Is Marvel's Best

Addressing why he hasn't been direct about whether or not there will be an Iron Man 4, Robert Downey jr declares that superhero movies are getting old, but The Avengers sequel will be the best

Will Marvel Studios be moving forward with a fourth Iron Man movie? Robert Downey Jr. has been asked this several times over the past week as  he's been promoting The Judge, but his response has seemingly shifted with each interview. Which is why The Telegraph recently pressed the actor to set the record straight once and for all. Avengers was another opportunity, but they’re not talking about Iron Man 4,” Robert Downey Jr. admitted. “I was kind of bombed out to tell the truth, but maybe they’ve got bigger fish to fry and I trust their overall vision. The funny thing about these genre movies is you’d think they were national secrets.” About the superhero genre, Downey was then asked if he gets a little jealous when there are non-Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero movies with the likes of Spider-Man or Batman. “Honestly, the whole thing is just showing the beginning signs of fraying around the edges,” he answered. “It’s a little bit old... Last summer there were five or seven different ones out. I feel that they are critiqued by a different metric to any other movie. Right, [that metric is box office], but also they are more forgiven because they operate on a different frequency. It’s like a bunch of really good dancers and you’re looking for the one who keeps changing her leg warmers. They make a lot of money.” Upon request, Robert Downey Jr. then proceeded to discuss how playing Marvel's Armored Avenger has benefited him financially, which you can check out over at The Telegraph.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Social Chicago TV, the actor was asked more specifically about what we can expect from the highly-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron. “This new Avengers may well be the best Marvel movie, and by the way that’s saying a lot, because I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was great,” he said. “And Iron Man 3 turned out great, and Cap 2 was awesome. And they’ll be some surprises in the next little while too.” Hmmm. What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.

“This new Avengers may well be the best Marvel movie”

Really? I thought he'd say "Eh, the new Avengers is okay, but it's not really their best."

Can't blame RDJ for praising IM3, The Judge and AOU. For what he's getting paid, he should really be saying it makes Lawrence of Arabia look like an Ed Wood movie.

Superhero movies are here to stay. As long as they continue to tell great stories while entertaining us, then I'll never get tired of them.

I will indeed be watching Avengers 2, but not sure how the movie will be Marvel's best drastically different from the first. Just like the first movie, its about a hoard of villains lead by the most powerful villain and the hoard will prove to be too much to handle until someone makes "the ultimate sacrifice" and either dies or comes close to death.

You know what's really over-saturating Hollywood? Unscary horror movies and Melissa McCarthy movies.
