Spider-Man played a small but key role in both
Avengers: Infinity War and
Avengers: Endgame and now Tom Holland has revealed more about the role the wall-crawler played in the former.
The movies boasted some massive casts and lengthy running times so it's no wonder that a fair bit of footage ended up on the cutting room floor; however, this sequence revolving about Peter Parker and the Guardians of the Galaxy definitely sounds like it would have been a lot of fun.
"There was a scene in Infinity War that actually didn’t make the edit," the
Spider-Man: Far From Home star explained in a recent interview.
"It didn’t make the edit and it was basically Thanos, like, snapped his fingers or something and all the Guardians became astral forms, and then I had to try and grab all their bodies and put them back in the astral form."
We may have actually seen that scene because
a leaked image of unfinished VFX from a couple of years back did show Doctor Strange telling Spidey to help the team during that battle on Titan.
"At one point, they’re all lying down on the floor, all the Guardians, and Karen fell asleep because she was so tired for being up so early all the time for the Nebula makeup," Holland added.
It seems as if there's a lot from the last two
Avengers movies ended up being cut and most of it hasn't ended up on the respective Blu-ray releases. Does that mean we're getting extended versions down the line? We can only hope but will just have to wait and see for the time being...

Mourning The Fallen
Tony Stark's message to Pepper Potts is obviously a little different in the movie, but the first key change in the teaser comes when we see Bruce Banner looking at a screen showing the heroes who died after Thanos snapped his fingers. In the movie, it's actually Captain America, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel watching those screens and it was clearly altered in the trailer for exposition purposes.
After all, it reminded us who had died and dropped that surprising reveal about Shuri, too.
However, the cleverest alteration (and I'm not sure how they pulled this off) comes when Steve Rogers and Black Widow receive that message from Scott Lang. Not only was the word "Archive" removed from the screen, but the trailer version of Natasha has her
Infinity War haircut. In
Endgame, five years had passed so her hair had returned to its natural red colour at this point in the story.

A Missing Hulk
What visual effects give, they can also take away and the scene where Rocket arrives to talk to Thor is obviously missing The Hulk.
In the movie itself, the Green Goliath was standing in the doorway alongside the Guardian of the Galaxy but considering the fact that Marvel Studios was keeping his role in the proceedings under wraps, it's no great surprise that the hero was hidden in this sequence.
Black Widow's Deleted Scene And Cap's Broken Shield
That scene featuring Black Widow doing some target practice in the Avengers Compound is totally M.I.A. and that's probably just because it was either a deleted scene or swapped out due to reshoots. An even bigger misdirect is the shot of Captain America tightening his shield's strap on his arm; in the movie, it's been shattered by this point, so it's no wonder that was edited to fool fans.

Another Deleted Scene
When this trailer was released, Marvel Studios was clearly still editing
Avengers: Endgame because there are multiple shots here featuring Black Widow and Bruce Banner that were present in the final cut but with different takes used from the same scenes.
The biggest omission is that emotional looking exchange between Black Widow and Hawkeye which presumably took place while they were travelling to Vormir or even after they reunited in Japan. This isn't so much of a misdirect as it is a deleted scene.
Where's Giant-Man?
That shot of War Machine and Rocket has been changed in two key ways. For starters (and for reasons which aren't addressed in
Avengers: Endgame), the armour Rhodey is wearing in this preview is its usual grey and black colour scheme rather than the Iron Patriot version we saw in the movie.
Giant-Man has also been removed from the background, presumably to hide Scott Lang's role in the final battle as we still weren't sure how involved he would be with the team at this point.
More Missing Scenes And A Different Background
The shots of Ant-Man and Thor (powering up Stormbreaker) are absent in the movie and while the former was probably only included to show a reaction shot, something tells me the latter was to throw us off the scent regarding the God of Thunder's new look. It may even be leftover footage from
Avengers: Infinity War's final battle in Wakanda.
Here's something really clever, though. That scene featuring Nebula running into battle on the remains of the Avengers Compound was heavily altered to make us think it was happening there when the truth is that this was actually the 2014 Nebula fighting alongside her sister Gamora in the past.
Trailer #2/"Special Look"
"He Killed All Our Friends"
This trailer was shared online quite close to the release of
Avengers: Endgame, so these changes are particularly surprising. However, Marvel Studios clearly wanted to create a narrative with these trailers and that might explain why what Rhodey says here was cut along with the shot of Natasha sitting in the rain (a place revisited by Scott Lang after The Hulk used the Infinity Gauntlet).
Captain America's Suit
The "Do you trust me?" scene with Captain America and Iron Man is massively different on the big screen compared to the trailers.
In this sneak peek, Steve Rogers is wearing his new costume and shakes hands with Iron Man, seemingly putting their differences aside once and for all. However, the movie has him decked out in the costume he wore in 2012's
The Avengers (because that's where they've travelled back to) and there's no handshake; instead, that moment happened quite a bit earlier in the movie.
The reason for this change is common sense because it would have confirmed time-travel long before Marvel wanted us to know.
Broken Shield (Again)
Along with a lot of alternate takes (including Steve Rogers shaving his beard), the other big change in this trailer is the fact Cap's shield is shown in its entirety rather than the shattered version from the film itself. Hiding this change was the right move even if its destruction wasn't as big a moment as it probably should have been when Steve Rogers came to blows with the Mad Titan.

An Awkward Goodbye For Thor And Valkyrie
At the end of
Avengers: Endgame, Thor leaves New Asgard in the capable hands of Valkyrie, but their farewell was originally going to play out quite a bit differently. According to Anthony Russo, she was going to put her arm on the God of Thunder's shoulder, something he would have misread as a sign to lean in and kiss her!
"[She] goes, 'What are you doing?' And he goes, 'Oh, I thought that the touch–', and she's like, 'It's a goodbye tap I'm giving you'. It was a really funny beat, but we cut it," he reveals.
This was actually shot, so there's a good chance it will make it on to the Blu-ray as a deleted scene. As funny as it would have been to see, it was clearly one joke too many for the movie's closing moments and it's thought that the MCU's Valkyrie is supposed to be gay.
Black Widow's New Job
Avengers: Endgame had a lengthy running time of three hours, but the Russo Brothers still had to cut a lot of content in order to tell the story they wanted. That included scrapping plans for Black Widow to be running an organisation based in Washington DC that would have seen her helping the orphans left behind by the snap.
In terms of character development, this obviously makes a lot of sense, especially as Natasha was also orphaned as a child. However, the filmmakers scrapped the idea early on and instead decided to have her leading the remaining Avengers. Had they had more time, though, this would have made a very interesting plot thread.
Iron Man Vs. Heimdall
It's hard to complain about the way this movie revisits the Marvel Cinematic Universe's past, but we missed out on what sounds like an amazing sequence. Apparently, early ideas for
Avengers: Endgame had Iron Man and Thor travelling to Asgard in 2013 in order to retrieve both the Power and Space Stones.
During that adventure, Tony Stark would have donned a stealth suit and gone head to head with Heimdall (who would have been able to see the Armored Avenger thanks to his unique abilities).
Thor, meanwhile, would have spent a little more time with Jane Foster. None of this got past the scripting stages, so don't expect to see any of this when the Blu-ray is released a little later this year.
More Alternate Time Heists
For quite some time,
Avengers: Endgame's writers shied away from heading back to the events of
The Avengers and that meant they looked at other key moments in the MCU for ideas on where the team could go in order to get their hands on the Infinity Stones.
At one point, we were set to see them break in to S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters during the events of
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a confrontation in the Sanctum Sanctorum with Doctor Strange, and some sort of underwater battle on Morag (which would have been a result of the team going too far back in time and getting to the planet long before Star-Lord did).
"Love You 3000"
Another very real possibility for the eventual home video release of
Avengers: Endgame, it was recently revealed that
13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford shots scenes for the movie as an older Morgan Stark. After Iron Man used the Infinity Stones, he would have visited that mysterious Soul realm where Thanos saw Gamora and got to interact with his daughter as a grown woman.
"What we realised about it was we didn't feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter," Anthony Russo explained. "So it wasn't ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level." It's a shame we didn't get to see this in the final cut of the film but you can see why casual moviegoers struggling with the concept of time-travel might have been confused.
Battlefield Reunions
Avengers: Endgame's final battle is massive, and you'd best believe that a lot of scenes were shot that sadly ended up on the cutting room floor. Among them were a series of reunions which saw Earth's Mightiest Heroes take a breather from the fight to catch up and attempt to formulate a plan.
"It didn’t play well, but we had a scene in a trench where, for reasons, the battle got paused for about three minutes and now there’s 18 people all going, ‘What are we going to do?’ ‘I’m going to do this.’ ‘I’m going to do this.’ Just bouncing around this completely fake, fraudulent scene," writer Stephen McFeely explained, expressing his regrets regarding reunions we didn't see.
Ultimately, you can see why they didn't want to have the action too bogged down in conversations such as this, but we'll hopefully get to see it in the form of some deleted scenes.
Returning To 2012
Once the filmmakers decided that they would return to the events of
Avengers: Endgame, they then needed to figure out at what moment Earth's Mightiest Heroes would arrive in 2012.
Well, editor Jeff Ford recently revealed that things kicked off with Iron Man flying through the Leviathan, a scene that was shown to test audiences but once again proved to be too confusing.
That means this was shot and could easily find its way on to the Blu-ray. Another option was reportedly the moment The Hulk smashes Loki, but it sounds like that was also too late.
Hank Pym And Janet Van Dyne Join The Fight
According to the movie's writers, they did seriously consider having Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne join the fight on the battlefield but with so many other characters to think about, they ultimately decided to leave them on the sidelines which is a genuine shame.
There have been reports that had Robert Redford been unwilling to reprise his role as the villainous Alexander Pierce, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders would have instead confronted Tony Stark as Nick Fury and Maria Hill in a bid to regain the Tesseract.
Smart Hulk's Lab Time
Avengers: Endgame's writers have revealed that there was a time when Bruce Banner was going to transform into Smart Hulk during
Avengers: Infinity War's final battle in Wakanda. That ultimately changed, and when it came time to figure out how they would introduce this new version of the Jade Giant in the sequel, they struggled to find a way to make that happen.
Apparently, one possibility was to actually show the Green Goliath in his lab, figuring out how to combine his intelligence and strength. It doesn't sound like those scenes got past the scriptwriting stage, and they later decided to cut straight to his new persona in that diner while he tucked into breakfast alongside Captain America, Black Widow, Ant-Man, and some big fans!
Hawkeye's Sacrifice
Originally, it was going to be Hawkeye who sacrificed himself on Vormir in order to get the Soul Stone but the writers quickly realised that that was the wrong direction to take things in, especially after a number of women working on
Avengers: Endgame expressed their disappointment with the idea to take such a big moment away from Black Widow.
Interestingly, the entire sequence was actually going to be very different, and the one we saw in theaters was a result of reshoots.
The original would have seen Thanos arriving on the planet to try and take the heroes out, with them then forced to try to fend off his soldiers while also battling each other to make that leap.
