If you've read our review of Marvel's Avengers, then you'll know we loved the single player campaign (we'll have more for you on the online side of things soon). Now that you've had a chance to try it out for yourselves, though, we're taking a spoiler-filled look at the game's most epic moments.

A cinematic experience, whatever faults the title may have - and there are a few - it's fair to say that Square Enix has nailed what it should feel like to take control of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

As you might expect, Marvel's Avengers is perhaps at its best when it delivers moments you'd get a kick out of seeing either in the comic books or on the big screen, and it's those we're taking a closer look at here as we delve into what makes the story campaign such a blast to get involved in.

To check out these moments, all you guys need to do is click on the "Next" button down below!

10. Blasting Into Outer Space

Iron-Man

When Tony Stark needs to reach a satellite, he dons armour outfitted specifically for space. While exploring that location proves to be a lot of fun (we'll get to that), it's the journey through the skies which really stands out. If anything, it doesn't really last long enough, but taking off from Earth and heading into the heavens as Iron Man makes for a truly epic sequence.

Controlling the Avenger as he desperately tries to stay on course - and avoid being struck by lightning - you get to enjoy some rock music on the way, and this really does make you believe you're the hero.

The white armour looks badass in action and is imagery that will definitely stick with you.

9. Thor Returns

Thor

Much of the game is focused on Ms. Marvel, The Hulk, and Iron Man, so when Thor finally shows up to save the day, it's definitely a welcome sight. He arrives on the Helicarrier just in the nick of time, and experiencing the God of Thunder's power feels unreal, even after playing as the Jade Giant.

As you make your way across the floating warship, you use Mjolnir to tear apart A.I.M.'s forces, and it's such an upgrade in terms of abilities, bringing the thunder here is beyond epic.

The level concludes with a QTE which sees Thor stop the Helicarrier from crashing into New York City, and by that point, you'll feel like you have the power to stop that from happening!

8. Kamala Khan On The Run

Kamala

The game opens by putting players in control of a young Kamala Khan during A-Day, and five years later, she's been left with Inhuman powers. Those come out in full force in an enjoyable mission which sees you travel across a city to Kamala's secret hideout, though things soon escalate once A.I.M. comes looking for the youngster.

What follows is an expected, albeit simplistic, stealth level as you flee from A.I.M.'s forces.

While it may not break the mould, running through a park dedicated to Earth's Mightiest Heroes while the villainous organisation's robotic forces attempt to track you down proves to be surprisingly cinematic, and a great way to get accustomed to taking charge of the future Ms. Marvel.

7. A-Day Battle

A-Day

If you played the beta for Marvel's Avengers, then you'll be all too familiar with this level. It doesn't really differ in the game itself, but it serves as a near perfect introduction to these iconic heroes.

Whether it's racing across the Golden Gate Bridge as The Hulk, battling Taskmaster's goons on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, or facing off with that villain as Black Widow, it's a breathtaking, exciting series of set pieces, and you won't be able to peel your eyes from the screen as this all happens.

It is just a tutorial for the most part, but it's a damn good one and suitably epic in terms of scale.

6. Running From The Hulk

Hulk

The young Kamala Khan is determined to reassemble The Avengers, and her mission starts by attempting to find Bruce Banner. Unfortunately, it's The Hulk that she encounters, and that leads to a pulse-pounding sequence which sees you take control of the young Inhuman with the Green Goliath in pursuit.

As you run through the level, you're aware that The Hulk is close behind, and it's hard not to jump when the hero smashes his way through a nearby wall in a bid to get his hands on Kamala.

As strange as it might sound, Marvel's Avengers is often at its best when you're running through set pieces like this, but this one really stands out as the stakes feel particularly high/frightening.

5. Captain America Lives

Cap

It's been clear for a while that Captain America somehow returns in Marvel's Avengers, and that actually comes when Iron Man discovers that A.I.M. has put him on ice in the aforementioned satellite.

Steve Rogers is there because his blood has been used to keep George Tarleton alive (and subsequently transformed him into M.O.D.O.K.). The reunion between Iron Man and Cap really strikes a strong emotional chord, and their banter as they make their way to the escape shuttle is great fun.

Even better is actually getting to take control of Cap as he finally gets to return to action. He doesn't have his shield at this point, of course, but his athleticism more than make up for that being absent.

4. Hulk Vs. Abomination

Abomination

There are a lot of cool boss battles in Marvel's Avengers, though most of them see Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble to square off with massive robotic enemies sent their way by A.I.M.

There's nothing wrong with those, of course, but it's a lot more satisfying to take control of The Hulk and go toe to toe with The Abomination. Punching robots is great and all, but knocking seven bells out of one of the Jade Giant's greatest enemies proves to be both epic and a thrilling experience.

It's hard to deny that the game might have benefited from more fights like this, and it's a shame more classic villains from the comic books don't make their presence felt to face the team.

3. Cap Vs. A.I.M.

Cap-A

During the game's final mission, you're put in charge of Captain America while the rest of the heroes take on A.I.M. forces elsewhere. While The Hulk does show up to help out at one point, racing through the M.O.D.O.K.'s fortress above the ruins of San Francisco is nothing short of awesome.

It helps that Cap's special abilities in the game are particularly badass, and there's something oddly pleasing about leaping from platform to platform, taking out a bunch of baddies with your shield, and then sprinting towards one last fight as M.O.D.O.K. causes your surroundings to implode.

It's a great showcase of Captain America, and makes us wish he'd been in the game even more.

2. Avengers Assemble

Thor-2

With M.O.D.O.K. at full power, the Avengers assemble to take the fight to him and save the day.

You're essentially put in charge of each hero one after the other in order to weaken the formidable baddie, and whether it's throwing Cap's shield, bringing the thunder as Thor, or even unloading Black Widow's pistols, it feels like you're really helping to turn the tide against M.O.D.O.K. here.

Seeing as Marvel's Avengers isn't Ultimate Alliance, taking it turns like this was probably the best approach, and one that ensures each character is given the chance to shine here.

1. Ms. Marvel Vs. M.O.D.O.K.

Ms-Marvel

Trust us, it's around this point in the game you'll be wondering when the heck Ms. Marvel is going to get her due. After all, she's been a focal point of this game up until this point, but don't fret too much, as the Inhuman gets to make a truly massive (and we do mean massive) impact against M.O.D.O.K.

After he takes control of a huge Kree Sentinel which was buried beneath San Francisco, Ms. Marvel finally gains full control of her powers and grows equally as massive in order to put him down.

You're given control as Ms. Marvel does exactly that, and it's seriously awesome. However, as great as this is, trust us when we say you'll want to stick around for a very cool mid-credits scene...

Just got done with the campaign. It's a great story with good performances for the most part. Kamala was my favourite thing about the game.

This could've been a great game if it was just a linear single player campaign with a more fleshed out combat system. The combat design is bad, missions are repetitive, and the boss fights aren't impressive aside from Modok.

And there's a shitstorm of bugs. Not to mention it runs like shit on my base PS4.

Another thing worth mentioning are the cosmetics, going end-to-end on the campaign you unlock 3 costumes per character (2 for BW). Rest are either level-gated, need to be bought with credits earned from level-gated missions, from the market place, or the battle pass that will take you at least 21 days to complete, and even from the pass you only earn one classic suit, rest are recolours.

I’ve only played the multiplayer mode but I’m going to get into the campaign soon. I knew Cap would still be alive. His fighting style is super impressive. That athleticism is crazy

I'm both baffled by this game and absolutely in love with this game

It is one of buggiest, least creatively conceived and least logically designed games I've ever played. There are so many things strangely and inconsistently baked into this game that only become weirder when you consider how long they've had to develop it. Add onto that, the fact that so much of it ISN'T fixed by the large Day 1 patch you have to download, and I really wonder how long it's going to take them to fix even the smaller, more obvious issues

And at the EXACT same time this is one of the most fun, exhilarating and intuitive games I've ever played. Gameplay is both super simple and super punishing, so like an old arcade beat em up you have to really dig into the mechanics and stay in constant motion, which makes it even better when you start to level up and gain new moves. It really makes you feel both the awesomeness and the urgency of being an Avenger both individually and as a part of a team. They really made a game where 6 players control completely differently and they all feel like valuable parts of a whole.

I'm a good 20% through the campaign and I'm stunned by how great the story is. It never crossed my mind that the game would *feel* this good to play an Avengers game, they just......need to clean up all the obvious shit around it. I know that's standard for these live service games but Crystal Dynamics should know better on some of this stuff. The loot stuff doesn't bother me in the least either, it's really down to the bugs, mission/level Variety, and an overall tightening of the edges

@OmegaDaGrodd -

I'm really enjoying the game. Beat the campaign already which is a very well told story.

I feel this potential series will improve greatly if there is a second game in the future. I'm not sure how much updates and DLC can improve on the current game aside from bringing in new characters. I don't think level designs will change much in DLC.

Game crashed on me twice while trying to do the Captain America chain to get another outfit. Once while I finished the stage which would have got me a new outfit but it wasn't registered.

But overall a good game for me.

@TheBlueMorpho -

I feel like there are definitely elements that aren't going to change until a sequel (combat system, skills, base campaign, etc) but I think the current game can be vastly improved by having small improvements like an AI command system to direct your AI teammates (they're working on this) and eliminating the major bugs/glitches in the current game, which can be done with patches

Level/villain variety is already coming in some respects via the DLC DLC character mission chains, and that'll be more than enough to keep me going

I think overall though if they're able to make a sequel, there are a lot of things I'd like them to refine right of the gate, but most importantly it will be nice to see what they do with a campaign that isn't built around reassembling the team since that will let them jump right into things
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 9/7/2020, 11:20 AM
@jj2112 - I don't know where that timeline is coming from. I think that's based on skipping all the side missions available along the way, which I think cuts off a lot of the experience
jj2112
jj2112 - 9/7/2020, 12:13 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - It's coming from the developer itself. Apparently if you do absolutely everything it takes about 30 hours.

Over 10 maybe. That's if you don't do the little side missions.

Cool about an AI command system. Cause when you have an A,B and C objective it would be nice to point the AI if you don't have live teammates to where you want them.

Looking forward to play as Hawkeye (Clint).

Was looking forward to this game but waiting on reviews after I wasn't impressed with the beta. Reviews haven't been great, gonna wait until it's like $40
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 9/7/2020, 11:16 AM
@ThorArms - I can tell you right now it's not worth the full $60. The campaign is fantastic but could have been so much greater had they made this game a focused single player experience. The campaign is only 8-10 hours long and the multiplayer missions are so short and poorly crafted that it's not worth waiting all the time it takes to load in.

I can only hope that down the line they make more story based expansions akin to the campaign involving the new characters. But yea definitely wait for a significant price drop.

Graphics issues, game breaking bugs and crashes often. Entire game seems to be trying to convince you to spend more, so many unlockables primarily designed to leech money from you. It's disgusting honestly
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 9/7/2020, 10:59 AM
@Scarilian - have you seen 2k? At least In this game you can actually play without all the upgrades. In 2k your player is a 60 who can’t do anything an nba player could do all to make you spend 50 dollars on vc

Is Peggy Carter Captain Britain in the game? Why not make that canon in the comics, and continue her and Captain America's love story in the present day? That'd be awesome!

Darth258

Just finished the campaign, loved it, and getting into multiplayer. Didn't get any gamebreaking glitches or performance issues (so far) on PS4.
To everyone that doesn't have the game already i'd suggest to wait for a big patch or added content.

My gripes with the game:
- Not being able to access some rooms with boxes and resources if you play solo with AI companions (they need to give atleast a command button or the ability to switch characters)
- Not enaugh supervillains (3 weren't many)
- Rooms that seem a copy/paste. Need more variety, same for the robots.

Suggestions:
- Since difficulty doesn't change the rewards in the end i suggest the lower one to grind faster through the daily/weekly missions for the challenge cards, that way one can basically progress all 6 in little time every day.
Same goes for the daily faction missions.

Darth258 - 9/7/2020, 11:47 AM
Hopefully we will get more variety once they fix the current problems and start adding content, after all it's been out for a week.

Unsure about buying this game, i find that playing kamala would be boring as her powers don't interest me at all. Out of anyone to bring to a game they chose mr. fantastics twin? No thanks. Stretchy abilities are def on the bottom of my favorite power list. Bring more fun characters into the game like captain marvel :D

Also some of the outfits are ugly af and i can't seem to get over them not looking anything like their movie counterpart. I know its different from the movies but i'm so used to the actors that it feels weird seeing totally different 'people'
Darth258
Darth258 - 9/7/2020, 12:05 PM
@Beartastic25 - Maybe reading some comics will wash that feeling away.

@Beartastic25 -

One thing I didn't like was being forced to play as a character I didn't to want at first. But playing as Kamala is ok and fun. I just want to play as Cap for the most part. But Thor and Black Widow play the best outside of Cap for me.

I’m waiting on this one until more content/lower price. The concept is interesting, but it sounds like it needs a lot of work still.
