Hugh Jackman Reportedly Met With Kevin Feige About A "Big Role" For Wolverine In AVENGERS: SECRET WARS

Hugh Jackman will reprise the role of Logan/Wolverine for Deadpool 3, but it sounds like Marvel Studios may have bigger plans for the fan-favorite mutant in the MCU going forward...

After (supposedly) hanging up the claws for good after Logan, Hugh Jackman broke the internet when he announced that he'd be reprising the role of Wolverine for a team-up with Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 3.

At the time, fans wondered if this was going to be a one-off, or if Jackman would be staying on as the MCU's version of the ionic mutant, and we may now have our answer.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Jackman met with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike to discuss his future as the character, and it sounds like the Aussie actor might be lining up a "big role" in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Previous reports have indicated that Secret Wars is going to be a seriously stacked event, with multiple Variants of pretty much every major hero (and villain?) from all across the Multiverse getting in on the action, so Wolvie's involvement really wouldn't be a major surprise - but a significant role for Jackman is something we weren't expecting.

Does this mean that Jackman's version of Wolverine will remain in the MCU, with a new team of X-Men built around him? It's way too early to call, but it would give the studio some breathing room and allow for the introduction of new characters while retaining an important - and very popular - link to the past.

How would you feel about Jackman's Logan sticking around after Deadpool 3? Would you prefer if another actor was given the opportunity to bring Ol' Canucklehead to life? Drop us a comment down below.

@iceballsreborn - I don't want Hugh to be the permanent MCU Wolverine just like I wouldn't want Tobey to be the permanent MCU Spider-Man but I love the idea of the multiverse saga being a way of giving these old school versions of the characters and the actors who played them a unique bit of recognition within the MCU.

Ugh. I want a comic accurate Wolverine badly. I don’t hate Jackman but tall and pretty is not what Wolverine is about

@dragon316 - yeah Thor’s armor in lobe and thunder was super like ‘94. Like when todd m was doing Spider-Man. I love that era

AC1 - 8/12/2023, 8:56 AM
@SDCA27 - I hope the MCU version is a bit more in line with the comics when he's eventually introduced but I'm more than happy for the multiverse to be used as a way of giving us a bit more Hugh as long as it isn't overdone.

@SDCA27 - He’s going to fill the Old Man Logan variant role from the 2015 Secret Wars comic event. I feel confident of that.

Sucks that Cap (Rogers) is gone. Would loved to see Cap & Wolverine share the screen

@TheBlueMorpho - I mean they could technically to a soft reboot after secret wars and recast some characters.

@SDCA27 -

They should eventually if not after Secret Wars.

FireandBlood

@TheBlueMorpho - They’ll pluck Cap and Tony out of time for Secret Wars. They won’t pass up the opportunity of having them share the screen with Jackman and Maguire.

SDCA27 - 8/12/2023, 8:02 AM
@dragon316 - yeah I mean the only costume so far that I think has been pretty perfect is Deadpool. I mean how many Batman movies have we had and they’re still afraid to really go for it.
SDCA27
SDCA27 - 8/12/2023, 8:04 AM
@SDCA27 - speaking of Batman im really hoping that the DCU goes full Jim Lee

So will the avengers become like the xmen movies and be mainly about Wolverine?
SDCA27
SDCA27 - 8/12/2023, 7:44 AM
@S8R8M - I mean even though we’ve had Wolverine jammed down our throats for years now he’s never really been done right. He’s also the only xmen member that really had his own solid comic run
dragon316
dragon316 - 8/12/2023, 7:48 AM
@S8R8M - that’s how it was in eighties and nineties wolverine in almost every marvel comics and cover until Deadpool finally took off popularity
SDCA27
SDCA27 - 8/12/2023, 7:57 AM
@dragon316 - exactly. I mean for the time he was super edgy. Lol yeah and then Deadpool comes along and he’s like hold my beer.. but that like firet 20 issues of that Wolverine run when he’s going by Patch and living in Madripor is one of my favorite runs of all time.
SDCA27
SDCA27 - 8/12/2023, 8:00 AM
And really Deadpool happened because they needed a character who wouldn’t get butchered by Logan. He didn’t grow a personality unruly he’d been around for a minute
SDCA27
SDCA27 - 8/12/2023, 8:06 AM
@SDCA27 - … until he’d been around for a minute
