Marvel.com recently posted an interview with "The Avengers" tie-in comic The Black Widow Strikes writer, Fred Van Lente, in which he let some "titilating" news slip, that Black Widow should indeed start writing her "Bucket List."

Thanks to DCMarvelFreshman for bringing this to the instigating community here on CBM. The following is a exerpt from the interview.

"This is on the same scale as the Marvel movies. We’re working closely with Marvel Studios to have it integrate seamlessly with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Once this is over, they’re welcome to use any of my ideas here for a movie,” Van Lente says with a chuckle. “It was fun to talk to the studio and see what they have in mind for Black Widow, but who knows where she’ll be after 'Marvel's The Avengers'; maybe she doesn’t even make it out at the end?”

Now as always here on CBM, take this with a grain of salt, but as you know, Joss Whedon, writer/director of "The Avengers" is notorious not only for his amazing writing and story telling, but for killing off key characters. For those of you who have seen the classical "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" you should know what I am referring to.

If not, here is part one of the film.

Now as far as I'm concerned, as I stated in past articles, I would cry if he has the audacity to kill off the only female member of the team (excluding Cobie Smulders's Maria Hill). But I have faith that even if perhaps Whedon does decide to kill her off, it will be for the best. (Intro for Ant-Man, Wasp, anyone?) As many of you have come to realize from the recently released photos, it seems Widow and Hawkeye will have a close relationship throughout the film, which makes me wonder, will the possible death of the Femme Fatale make Hawkeye go berserk and show us the Bow and Arrow weilding bad-ass that he is in the comics, well remember, this is all speculation, and it's best to keep it that way.

No, Whedon would never kill off his only female. He's a self proclaimed feminist.

I agree with comicbookjerk, especially in the final shot in the superbowl trailer. I almost laughed when I saw that she was using two tiny hand guns.

I thought ScarJo signed on for several films (including Iron Man 2 and The Avengers), so I'd be surprised if she's killed off. Plus, killing off (arguably) the weakest member in the team is kinda lame IMO.

Shes not THAT bad people.. Think about all the horrible actresses they could've went with.. IMO she will draw alot of dudes to the box office to see this movie so they knew what they were doing when they cast her..

@yossarian Hehe, I made this article on my iphone, I meant to put kick, but only these so called "editors" are allowed to edit articles sadly.

Thanks everyone for thumbing this up and commenting, it's much appreciated, I was wishing this article could've gotten more attention on main, considering there has only been around 3 new articles today, but whatever, I've kind of come to realize the whole "Thumb Up articles to get on main" crap is BS, when this article gets almost 30 comments and 4 or 5 Thumbs up while articles on main get an Avengers vs Batman war and only 1 thumbs up, oh well. I wish Jim would realize some people here such as myself just like to post interesting articles for fun, that are more intriguing than how much a car cost.I don't want money, just the sense of doing something people find cool or as stated, interesting. Alright, I'm done bitching, lol.

I don't think they will kill her in the movie. If they did kill her then I imagine it would be a Secret Invasion type scenario where the dead BW is actually a Skrull spy. This works if the enemy truly is the Skrulls as it seems to be.

She won't die. Especially with Joss Whedon involved (he's a feminist as mentioned above). Plus, Marvel wouldn't dare kill off a hero this early in the game.

Spoiler! (too late for that, eh? :P) Remember the Central Park set spy shots? The Team part ways. Assuming its the film's closing, of course. Barton and Romanoff are alive and well. Banner and Stark ride off in an Acura. Rogers burns rubber on his bike. And Thor and Loki teleport back to their shitty father.

I'm on my phone so it's a bit of trouble for me to post the YouTube video. But I'm sure you remember it.

honestly im sick of the joss whedon loving. he has made terrible movies and ok shows and toy story (which is amazing) but making a great animated movie is totally different than making a great live action movie. dr. horrible was ok without NPH, noone wouldve seen it and it prob wouldnt have been as good

Good write up, good article, and good question @@GambitFreak. My answer....

GOD I HOPE SO!

I really, really dislike ScarJo as Black Widow and I don't like their interpretation of her as part of the Avengers. She just doesn't fit...period...I really don't think anybody can defend her position on the team with any sort of credibility.

I think killing her off towards the end will do 2 things, both of which you mentioned GambitFreak...

1...it will send Hawkeye into a badass arrow-slinging tyrade of craziness...

2...it will give Janet Pym a hole to fill as the leading lady in the sequel

I hope she does get killed off...sorry, but I do

@SuperBat77 naa i have been a member for a few years just i sporadically go on this site now i dont have too much time..but i have watched almost all of whedon's works and almost all isnt good...it is cool to nerds but it isnt good writing. the buffy the vampire slayer movie is one of the worst directed and written movies i have ever seen..angel and buffy both had some good ideas but werent done well that often and firefly at best was ok and dr. horrible was ehh even when it comes to musical's standards

@yankeemanf Sorry, but I gotta defend Whedon here, The Buffy movie, was either written by him and directed by someone else, or the other way around, like I'm sure if someone else directed Green Lantern, it would've been badass, Whedon later made Buffy the cult phenomenon with tv years after the failed movie.

Big flaw in this theory. That is: "Now as always here on CBM, take this with a grain of salt, but as you know, Joss Whedon, writer/director of "The Avengers" is notorious not only for his amazing writing and story telling, but for killing off key characters."

This statement is true, HOWEVER, Black Widow is not HIS character, nor did he have anything to do with her introduction to the MCU in Iron Man 2.
TheGambitFreak
TheGambitFreak - 2/21/2012, 2:30 PM
@Tainted87 I mean that he wrote the script for The Avengers and he is also directing. Therefore, all the characters in his writing is his to mess around with.
Tainted87
Tainted87 - 2/21/2012, 9:46 PM
Yessssss, but Marvel has to approve it first, and Kevin Feige has said he wants to do a solo film.
Whedon's history of killing off characters includes Serenity (his and only his), Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog (his and only his), and um, that's it.
