How will the Avengers Trilogy go down?

How will the Avengers Trilogy go down?

It started as speculation on the first movie and grew into an idea of a potential plot for the trilogy...

Recently, a casting call was made for extras in ‘The Avengers’ in New Mexico, apparently with this little bit of info at the bottom:

A superhero team called “The Avengers” do battle against two separate alien extraterrestrial humanoid life forms. The Avengers are a superhero team, consisting of a group of Marvel Comics heroes aka “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”. The aliens that The Avengers will fight are called “The Kree” and “Skrulls”. These two extraterrestrial races become embroiled in a war for ages that ultimately makes its way to Earth, and the Avengers unite to intervene with all their power and might combined.

So, assuming this is true, how does it tie in to the rest of the MCU? This is what I’ve been wondering, and it ended up with me writing this with my conclusions. This is all just speculation and a bit of an educated guess, but I think it would make a pretty solid story.

FACTS

General Ross is aware of The Avengers - Well, in a way. In TIH, Stark tells him that “we’re putting a team together.” Now, this doesnt specify the purpose, I can see that going 2 ways: They’re putting a team together to take down the Hulk, or they’re putting a team together and they want the General’s help with finding the Hulk so they can ask him to join against a bigger enemy. Im going with the latter,

Tony Stark may not be Iron Man in The Avengers- but he probably will. At the end of IM2, Fury tells Stark that they want Iron Man in the team, but not him. This, plus the inclusion of War Machine in the Avengers cast on IMDB suggests that Tony will be in the film mostly on the sidelines - but im hoping in the end he’s needed badly and he leaps into action. Personally, I think that’s a bit silly and Stark should have his place on the starting team as always, but going from what we know it seems like it’s going that route.

The Cosmic Cube seems pretty vital - It’s been seen in the Thor Trailer, and also in a picture from CA:TFA, where Johanne Schmidt is holding it. The fact it’s in the last 2 movies released in the MCU before Avengers, plus the fact that it’s closely linked to the Skrulls leads me to believe its gonna be important.

RUMOURS

Loki/Hulk will be villains in The Avengers. When actors have been asked, they haven’t confirmed or denied (obviously, coz of all the secrecy) but their physical responses (eg, Ruffalo’s facial expression when asked) have suggested that they will play some villainous role in the plot.

Coulson is a Skrull! Ok, this is completely unsupported by any official source, but a few of fans on this glorious site have brought it up before and I think its totally viable: A new character created for the movies, closely linked to a few of the key characters? Coulson being a Skrull would be a great twist in the movie, especially when you think of the part he’s played in the movies so far.

THOUGHTS

The team are called The Avengers. Now, for them to be avengers, they have to be avenging something. So I’m thinking something big happened just before Iron Man?

The Red Skull had the Cosmic Cube in WW2, and it was then present in Asgard (assuming that clip from the trailer was in present time). So the cube has switched hands between the two movies, but how? I think that will be important to the Avengers.

STORY?

Loki will have brainwashed the Hulk before the movie. I think that would be a great after-credits scene in Thor - Loki on earth. ‘South America’ appears at the bottom of the screen. The camera is directly behind him as we see him striding through this massive field in what looks to be a tropical climate, the camera moves back and we see this massive green Hulk a hundred meters in front of him. Cut to black.

AVENGERS
The cosmic cube is explained by Fury, as the audience may not have seen the other 2 movies that feature it. We are told how the Cosmic Cube has been treasured by various civilizations and even been to different dimensions, and gives some outline of its true power.
We then learn of its origin: The Skrulls. Fury reveals that there has been a war going on between 2 alien races, and that this cube could be the weapon that ends it. The planet is in jeopardy because they are in possession of the Cube, with either of the forces coming at any moment to take it. But they can’t destroy it, neither can they give it to either of the races, as a bias would lead to full on attack from the other one. Their only hope is for the Avengers to defend the planet from these warring races, whilst finding a way to utilise the Cube against them.

At this point Agent Coulson leads a load of other agents into the meeting, as they reveal themselves as Skrull and it is here that Fury realises they have fallen to a Secret invasion. The Movie goes on with some twists and turns showing the Avengers fighting against the Skrulls for possession of the Cube. The Avengers win, and take Coulson hostage where he says that there is nothing they can do, whether they have the Cube or not, the Kree/Skrull war is coming to Earth.

During the last 10/20 minutes or so, after the Skrulls have been defeated and retreated into hiding, The Hulk suddenly goes [frick]ing apeshit and kills a few people in the process. The rest of the Avengers rush in to stop him, giving Loki the perfect opportunity to swoop in and steal the Cube.

The movie ends with Avengers confronting Loki for the Cube. During the confrontation, a Kree appears next to Loki and a fleet of massive spacecraft appear in the sky above them. Loki laughs as the Kree explains he was hired to steal the Cube for them before they make their presence known on Earth. The Kree declares War against the Avengers and the Skrull. He then immobilizes Loki, and flees to his spacecraft with the Cube.

AVENGERS 2.

This will basically be the Kree/Skrull war on Earth with lots of deceptions as we find more traitors amongst SHIELD being Skrulls. Im not too good on my Kree/Skrull stuff so I’ll assume its really good and the movie will be epic just following that. But id also like to see it incorporate the beginnings of Civil War, using the Hulk incident from Movie 1. The Hulk subplot may have seemed a bit needless but my theory is they’ll use something like that as the instigator for a Civil War with constant mention of the political dilemma caused by Hulks actions throughout this movie. With an announcement of the Superhero Registration Act somewhere near the end.

AVENGERS 3.
CIVIL WAR! The third movie will already be set up with the groundwork done in the Secon film. Start the movie with a montage of Hulk’s flip-out and headlines/news reports of new superheroes and their accidents. Then show Tony’s speech saying that he’s backing the Act. Then just take it from there! Follow the story. There’s already rumors of a new Punisher movie that could be in the MCU, and who knows, we might even have Spidey or The Fantastic Four by the time the third movie is n pre-production :D

What do you think? I think my version has a bit too much going on, but it’s what I’d like to see. Let me know in the comments :)

If Tony isn't Iron Man in The Avengers, I'll be so mad.
Otherwise, good write up.

i think Civil War is a bit much to ask for, and it would be a totally watered down version, considering the lack of characters.

Ultron has to be somewhere in there. He's the Avengers' greatest and worst villain, so i think they should end one of the frist two films with Pym creating Ultron. Then the the following film can be Ultron as the villain. Then they can bring on Vision!

Thanks @Paul :)

@CorndogBurglar, i actually wrote an article with an alternate avengers storyline a while back, relating Hank Pym/ Ultron to the franchise:

civil war would be too much to ask for... but i still would love it! i'd say for avengers 2 it would be better to have ultron... finish the kree/skrull story line in avengers, with loki wanting the cosmic cube... i think the kree will actually be allies in the end... probably... good write up though...

the most important thing about this movie and some of you may disagree is that the avengers have to be an independant team meaning they should not work under SHIELD, work with them but they shouldn't be controlled by them. If they are then there not super HEROES. there super WEAPONS.

and really your trusting IMDB for info not the brightest idea, and the cast that was announced in comic con is the team more or less. and Civil war's a bit too much and shouldn't happen until marvel have all the characters back in fact it should never happen in live action its too much to fit in, maybe animated.

@Intruder, I just watched the last scene again, Nick Fury specifically says, "We'd only like to use you as a consultant". I dont think that's reading too much into something, thats what Fury actually said. I wasn't saying Stark wouldn't be in the initiative, just that he wouldn't be in the suit.

The Casket Of Ancient Winters I had no idea about, so that's a fair point.

I suppose Civil War would be a bit too big... But it is something I'd like to see on the big screen, maybe a bit further into the future when the MCU is more established and we have more key characters back :)

No man, rewatch the scene. Fury may have said he wants Iron Man, not Stark, but he knows he can't get one without the other. Thats why he says 'At this juncture we'd only like to use you as a consultant'. Clearly he means that for the meantime Stark is on the sidelines until hes proved that he can take his ego out of the equation. I know it sounds silly man, but thats what he says

@Ashdm and what was tony starks response to the consultancy offer "you can't afford me" which sounds like he's rejecting the offer, instead he asks for a small favour. Trust me Iron Man will be in the movie.

and this is why its important to have the Avengers become a independent team which doesn't work for SHIELD. At least by the end of the movie and the man to come up with that Idea should be Tony Stark.

Nice article! But I hope they don't make it just a trilogy, they shouldn't create this amazing universe only for it to be shut down after a few years.

@Exiles, I agree with you man, I do think that Stark WILL be Iron Man in the movie, I just dont think its gonna start with him straight in the action, ya know? Just going from what we've seen i assumed he wouldnt be in the suit IMMEDIATELY.

And I totally agree with the SHIELD thing, now it seems kinda like Fury is recruiting everyone, Im expecting the them to dissociate themselves from the organisation and establish themselves as a team without any dependance on SHIELD.

i think what fury meant about stark was that they wanted "iron man" on the team and not the cocky reckless "tony stark" thats just my opinion. i will shoot joss in the face if war machine is in this. oh and if he gives hawkeye a gun

It mostly will be a two part movie or a trilogy. You can't fit the Avenger the Skrull and Kree into one movie that is about 2 hours. If they were to do that then the movie will be poor. Just assembling The Avengers is a quite a movie. Adding these two villians to it is going to take more than one movie

Hmm, interesting; but I kinda don't like how you set up the story for the trilogy. Now it would seem too soon to do Civil War as an ending for the trilogy.

I think for the second movie, it should be something like the dealing with the Masters of Evil; with the leaders of this team being both Ultron and Baron Zemo (if the Cinematic movie universe find some way of includign that guy in it). The story for that will be based off the Avengers Under Siege story.

And as for the third, it should be the Kree-Skrull War (it seems better for this story to be the ending for the trilogy). And maybe at the end, the Avengers decided to break off ties with Shield and become a team of their on at this point; starting off a new trilogy dub as "The Mighty Avengers".

The first and second one is genius but i never liked civil war and i dont think they should dedicate an entire avengers movie to it, it should have a very small role in the plot of the trilogy
