Questions About The MCU Pt.1

These are a few questions that have been rolling around in my mind ever since I saw the Avengers. What heroes could Fury have been considering for the Avengers Initiative before Iron Man?

After watching The Avengers for the fifth time this week I have decided to watch the first five movies of the MCU again. A few questions have come to mind as I now have seen the full collection of movies.

My first thoughts came to me as I was watching the end credits scene of Iron Man. Nick Fury's line "you think you're the only superhero in the world?" made me think about the continuity of the rest of the films. At this point in the MCU timeline we know that Thor has not appeared as he is due to arrive near the end of Iron Man 2, and forgive me if I am wrong but I don't believe Cap has been unfrozen at this point either. Following along with this chronological maze we also know that Emil Blonsky(Abomination) has not taken the super-soldier serum or mutated into the Abomination. Maybe, Nick Fury has considered Hulk for the team because Widow tells Banner in The Avengers that Fury "trusts him". With Iron Man that makes two superheroes by the time Fury makes his pitch for The Avenger Initiative. In my opinion two people do not make a team. I suppose an argument could be made that he intended to include Hawkeye and/or Widow on the roster but I would not really call them superheroes, mainly because the actors playing have stated they are not super, just highly skilled.

I realize that Marvel could not plan this whole thing perfectly and tried not paint themselves into any corners but this does make me wonder if they plan to address or use this in any way to introduce characters in prequel type movies. Edgar Wright had at one point said that Ant-Man would take place in the past. While I would prefer this not to be so, that could be one possible way to address this. If a Black Panther or Sub-Mariner movie ever gets out the door these could also be a way to introduce characters that had been on S.H.I.E.L.D.s radar and had been considered for the Initiative.

Marvel may or or may not ever address this point but as a fan of the Universe they created I like to see how things are sewn together. Please let me know if I have missed any body you think could fit with the established continuity.

I don't think the comment should be taken with such literal reference to the heroes and films we have already seen. As Marvel might consider it, the MCU is filled up with the characters that they intend to use in Phase 1, 2, 3 etc. So, when Fury says that Stark has become part of a bigger universe, it alludes to the fact that there are already considered members of an Avengers initiative (such as Namor, Black Panther or Ant-Man and so on) and that the team that we've ended up seeing has been comprised of those who were readily available. Because my interpretation of the situation for SHIELD in Avengers is that they don't have a clue whats going on and are truly going for broke by bringing in Stark and Banner to help as the initiative was scrapped. Cap and Thor have different motives for being there and Widow and Hawkeye are agents. So to me it fit continuity well enough. Phase 2 should be fun.

I would say Black Panther is a certainty at some point in the MCU, and I also think that he could fit this lil timeline. As the leader of a nation, it'd be hard for Fury not to notice the Wakandan king's odd extra-curriculars. Also Ant-Man is a shoe-in, and maybe by that point he had already created Pym Particles. I'ma go out on a limb and say Namor and Doc Strange are 2 more that we are sure to see.

I just don't think Guardians of the Galaxy is as close as people think. I think Doc Strange and Ant-Man are our 'unknown' projects and that BP will feature in Cap 2 with a small chance of introducing Agent Danvers(not powered yet).

No, I realize they considered him for the initiative but he had not become the abomination at that point in the timeline is what I am saying.

I'm not saying that it is a continuity misstep, I am just curious if in the future we might hear someone say, "Oh, yeah they called me about that initiative thing," or " well we had considered him for the initiative" something along those lines anyway.

Black Panther would have been considered for the initiative as well as Wolverine, since X-Men came out way before Iron Man, you could have had a Nick Fury cameo in one of the movies with him encountering Wolverine while he is on his own, Fury could have then talked to Logan about this initiative and he flat-out turns them down

@MCULover Ross wanted Blonsky for Avengers even after the Harlem incident that's why SHIELD sends in "The Consultant" to talk him out of it but instead Stark recommends the Hulk which wasn't part of the plan.
